Control activities are designed to mitigate risks that threaten objectives. They help provide reasonable assurance that objectives will be achieved. There are two types of risks: threats of bad things happening and threats of missing opportunities. As part of a case study assignment, students were instructed to photograph two control activities on campus - one that mitigates risks of bad things happening, and one that mitigates risks of missing opportunities. For each control photographed, students were asked to indicate its type, describe the objective it helps achieve, the risk it mitigates, how it operates, and how an internal auditor would test it. Formal criteria for submitting the research paper such as formatting and layout were also provided.
