For a school assignment, the student's group researched print and television advertising techniques to create an advert for Persil detergent. They created storyboards and presentations pitching their ideas. On the day of filming, some group members were absent, delaying production. The student acted as director while others filled roles like actor and props manager. Their advert focused on the theme of nurture by featuring a child. After filming, the video was edited down to 30 seconds and added music. The student learned about advertising techniques through the project but felt their group's absences impacted the schedule.
1. For this assignment, we were to make an advert about Persil.
Pre-production
At the start of the filming project, we had researched print adverts and there camera angles, colours,
etc. We then researched T.V adverts and reviewed them, after hat we made our print ads about
Persil. Before the filming of the advert we had made presentations showing our ideas about the
adverts that we had thought of, drawn out storyboards for the advert and did papers about health
and safety risks including areas that we would be filming in.
Post-Production
In the advert that my group and I made we had different roles. Davia helped make the
decisions/camera, Zaid was an actor, Stuart was the props manager and I was the
director/camera.We had made a decision to base the advert around nurture, so Davia had brought
her Niece to help with the filming. We had a few problems in the planning of the filming as there
were people absent so tasks like the print adverts and the filmed advert were put on hold. After the
advert was filmed, Stuart used Adobe Premiere to edit the video to 30 seconds long and added
Disney theme music appropriate to the advert.
When learning about adverts, I had learned about all the different techniques and camera angles
used in filming and in print adverts. As mention before we had used the technique of Nurture, by
having Davia’s Niece featured in the Persil advert. I think that the advert sort of got the point across
but our actor had covered the name of the bottle and we never had re-filmed it. I think people
would buy the product, because it does include Nurture into the advert. Our group had worked well
together, but the absences from two people in the group made it hard to go out filming. We
eventually got it donethough.
Overall if I was to change anything about the project that we did, I would probably be the
preparation of our team so we could have done the filming earlier because as mentioned before,
with the absences of two people, we struggled to film.
