2. Introduction
The last couple of weeks we spent our efforts to think through our findings from the
first two weeks. A media strategy, possible scenarios for our personas including the
technical issues, and finally a conceptual design for crossmedia interaction, with the
help of a storyboard.
In our media strategy we put the emphasis on the justification of our story, wherein
we try to explain why we have chosen for a set of ideas.
Furtheron, we give this list of ideas to engages people, and we abstracted a concep-
tual design from it.
The storyboard visualises what a likely scenario will be. This comes with a proposition
for our visual design.
Finally, we worked on a presentation, that will be due for next Monday.

4. Media strategy
Media that we are going to use
At home fresh students can find information on the internet about the OWee and the
spoorzone. They can get directions to student houses, DUWO and the university and
print them out on old-fashioned paper. They can also download an application for mo-
bile devices This application is a combination of of a routeplanner and a game.
On the spoorzone construction site are signs. These signs can be scanned in by QR
code or a number can be texted to get the information.
Wit the on-site information a game can be played, often you need other people to
play the game so social interaction in encouraged.
Mobile device
Every new student has a mobile device, almost every student uses a mobile device to
send text messages. In most cases, people enjoy using their mobile device because it
is something personal and fills in the personal needs of a person. Our targetgroup can
use a mobile device to open links that are found on banners at the construction site.
They can also use an application to navigate to their destination and to play a game.
A lot of students are interested in gadgets and uses them, that is why the use of a
mobile device is crucial in our project.
Because the application can be used to navigate to a location in Delft, it provides a
feeling of security that we are trying to reach.
Besides the navigation option also a game can be played. This game can be activated
by scanning a QR code or by texting an activation code.
Website
A website is an ideal way to use as a place where all information about the project
can be found. It is easy to use, can be updated quickly and it can offer a lot of infor-
mation in different ways like audio, pictures and video. Because new students can find
all information they need to know about the spoorzone they are very well informed
so they wil be more secure when they are actually in Delft. They can also find routes
to important student destinations in Delft which they can use to navigate through the
spoorzone.
The website is the backbone of the project, here can be found all background infor-
mation the application can be downloaded here or links to some applicationstores.

In Real Life
Actually the real thing is not a specific kind of media, but is is very crucial to use. This
way we can connect our project physically to the spoorzone by, for example, adding
banners to the building site fences with QR codes that can be scanned. Also signs with
information about what way students have to go will give a comfortable feeling. In the
end, if mobile devices and other stuff won't work, you have to use physical navigation
signs to get somewhere.
The first thing new students will notice about the spoorzone will be in an information
booklet about Delft and the Owee that they will receive at home at their parents. In
this booklet a page with information or an advertisement about the spoorzone will
redirect them to the website of our project.
On the website you can print out navigation information. With this info new students
will be aware about the construction site and feel more confident about it. Of course,
paper will be less used in the future, it still will be a crucial communication medium.
5. How the media complement each other
Besides the navigation and game options in the application, also information about
the spoorzone is found. On the website there is more information, so the website in-
formation complement the information in the application.
To activate games in the application, a code must be scanned from banner. So the
banner complements the application. Without a banner the application is partly use-
less and vice-versa.
How the different media refer to each other.
This information is given in this scheme:
Stimulated cross-overs between media
The cross-overs the project stimulates are the crossovers between the banners and
the mobile application. And between the website and the mobile application. The web-
site is the backbone but the mobile application is the most important.
Using a mobile device is fun, and information on a mobile device can be changed very
rapidly via the internet. This way new students can be as well informed as possible.
Our goal is to show the construction site can be fun and is not annoying or danger-
ous. By using a combination of a mobile device with a real life banner this goal can be
reached.
On the banners there will be texts that will encourage people to use their mobile
devices. Also the device will give a message if the user tries to use options that only
work in the neighbourhood of the constructionsite.
6. Conceptual design
Scenario
At home
Klaas is sitting at home in Dokkum wonder-
ing how things will be going when he starts his
study in Delft. He just received his OWEE pro-
gram and the Binas, so he starts reading both
booklets.
To get some more information about Delft he
starts browsing the web. He finds a site where
he gets information about the TU introduction
days. This website refers to a big construction
side at the Delft train station and gives direc-
tions to new students. He also finds an inter-
esting download on the site, which he can use
on his cell phone. Through this application he can easily find his way around Delft due
to the use of GPS and GSM transmitters. Because he has no clue about the scenery
in Delft he decides to download the application to his new cell phone. The download-
ing and installing only takes him 5 minutes. After installation he is asked to login so
he can get updates about the spoorzone and other things that might be of use. The
website also refers to some kind of banner that will provide more information to the
students that will participate in the OWEE.
The trip
So on the Friday the faculty introductions begin he takes the train to Delft with his
bike and bags. Since Dokkum has no train station his father drops him off at the sta-
tion of Leeuwarden. The travel time from Leeuwarden to Delft is around three hours
so he has to take the train of 6:45 to be at the aula at 10:00. Because he has his bike
and a couple of bags with him he sits at a hall near the doors. Being awake so early
he can’t help it to fall asleep in the train. Just before Rotterdam, where he has to
change trains he wakes up. After switching trains he heads to Delft.
When the train is in the Area of Delft the application starts to work and gives him a
welcome to Delft message. This message tells him he should at first look for the big
banner in front of the station that will help him find his way. When he arrives at the
station with a lot of other students that will attend the OWEE he starts to look for the
banner. It is not difficult to find, since a lot of students are in front of it. He walks to
the banner and sees there are different opportunities to get more information. There
is a pole next to the banner that provide Bluetooth connections, there are multiple
QR-codes on the banner and it is also possible to send a text message to get the
needed information. He likes the idea of scanning a QR-code so he tries to get a prop-
er position to be able to scan the square. Because of the big crowd this does not work
in the beginning, when he is thinking about using Bluetooth, he succeeds in scanning
the code.
The codes brings him to a direction program on his cell phone that asks him where he
wants to go. He is able to select a place to go out of a list of important destinations
during the faculty introduction and the OWEE. Because he has to go to the computer
science faculty he select it. After that he gets the choice how he wants to receive his
directions. He has never worked with Augmented Reality so he decides to give it a
try. The application determines the position he is in and the loads the directions. With
the use of his cell phone and the augmented reality directions he finds his way to the
faculty with ease.
7. After the weekend he, and all the other students that will attend the OWEE, go to the
aula for the start of this week. In the aula he follows the introduction of the OWEE
and gets directions on where he should go. He and the rest of his OWEE group decide
to use Klaas his cell phone once again to find this location.
Later on in the week they are planned to meet somewhere around the spoorzone.
Because of the ongoing work for many years to come the city of Delft and the TU find
it important to inform the students about it. On the place they are supposed to meet
they find a banner, which give them information about the game they are going to
play. This game will be a treasure hunt. A question is the start point, this question
leads to another point at the spoorzone and in the mean time information s given
about the ongoing work and the final result that should be obtained. This goes on for
a number of points and at the end the group can win a price if they are the best per-
forming group in the OWEE.

To show the look and feel of our project we made some screen layouts for the differ-
ent types of media we are going to use.
