Dear Judges:
Greetings, my name is Clint Brown. Since I was at the age of two, I have always had a
peculiar interest in cars and how they worked. Once I was old enough to understand cars
better and begin to work on them, my father restored a truck and had me apprentice with
him to truly understand the inner-workings of a car, which really heightened my interest.
My true interest and love for working on automobiles has no limit. My goal in life is to
achieve a career in the automotive industry where I can design and engineer cars. My
choice for my senior project is to restore an automobile.
My product is a 1991 Lincoln Towncar that had been sitting under trees and had
weathered in the same spot for four years. My product relates to my research paper by
being an automobile that was engineered for the purpose of being maintained and worked
on to continue functioning, which is of my interest. I restored the car to better understand
what makes automobiles function. Through research, I learned about the history of
automobiles and what is required to work on cars and keep them running. I ran into
several obstacles in the restoration of my car, one being that the air conditioning
compressor blew up due to not being used for so long, which required much work to
replace but was managed through much determination. Another obstacle that came about
was the fan clutch breaking causing the car to overheat and blow all of the Freon out of
the air conditioning compressor, which was difficult to reach and caused several
problems, but was fixed through the reaching around of several parts. Overall, the
completion of my product was an overwhelming success and an achievement that will not
be easily forgotten.
In my research of my topic, I learned much about what is required to achieve the
opportunity to pursue a career in the automobile industry. My topic relates to my research
directly because to be able to restore the car, I had to research diagrams of the car to be
able to restore it. I learned much about myself throughout the restoration and I learned
what it takes to restore a car. I learned that it takes copious amounts of time to be able to
perform the necessary tasks to accomplish such endeavors. For me, the desire to pursue
the career in the automotive industry is for sure what I love and want to pursue as a future
career.
In summation, I feel as though the senior project is great for helping students learn what
they want to do in the future or what they don’t. For me, the benefits of the senior project
2. far outweigh the costs of not doing the senior project and then learning that their career
may not be what they want to do. Overall, the senior project is perfect for helping
students get a better understanding of what they want to do for their career. Thank you
Judges for your time in watching my presentation.
Sincerely,
Clinton Brown
