INTRODUCTION
At the end of Advanced 2 students who have passed all their exams and
done all the corresponding homework and classwork will be issued a certificate
classed as B2 (upper-intermediate) in the European Framework of Reference, a
document which establishes a list of common evaluation standards for all
European languages. The objectives, contents and other specifications of the
course can be found at the OLS English Department website.
In plain English this means that it is a consolidation year for upper-
intermediate students. The name of the certificate is misleading because it is
upper-intermediate in content (B2), but advanced in name. If there are Students
whose English is advanced (C1), they should consult the teacher to find a
temporary solution, since a need for a really advanced level is strongly felt in
the school community. Currently, teachers´ associations and student groups are
putting pressure on both the local and central governments to address the
issue.
