AWS Direct Connect
AWS Direct Connect is a service aimed at allowing enterprise customers easy access to their AWS
environment. Enterprises can leverage the AWS Direct Connect to establish private connectivity to the
AWS global network from their data centers, office locations or co-location environments.
AWS Direct Connect public VIFs allow you to connect to the AWS public endpoints with public IP
addresses (such as Amazon S3 and Amazon DynamoDB) that are advertised to AWS over Border
Gateway Protocol (BGP). [1]
AWS Direct Connect can be used as a replacement for a VPN connection over the public internet, to
connect customer networks with AWS. Direct Connect is likely to provide a more reliable level of
performance however it is significantly more expensive as compared to a VPN.

Here is an example of an off-site backups. Data from client machines are stored inside on-premise backup servers.
Back-ups on local storage are then copied over to cloud storage on AWS. Cloud storage can be used in case of
data corruption or physical damage to on-premise storage.

work environment through AWS. These work environment will be consistent
across devices and only require a running internet connection to use. Each
environment in turn has access to storage stored on premise.

AWS WorkSpaces
Amazon WorkSpaces is a managed, secure cloud desktop service. Amazon WorkSpaces can be
provisioned to be either Windows or Linux desktops and quickly scale to provide thousands of desktops
to workers across the globe. You can pay either monthly or hourly [1] . Amazon WorkSpaces helps you
eliminate the complexity in managing hardware inventory, OS versions and patches, and Virtual Desktop
Infrastructure (VDI), which helps simplify your desktop delivery strategy.

AWS EMR
Amazon EMR provides a managed Hadoop framework that makes it easy, fast, and cost-effective to
process vast amounts of data across dynamically scalable Amazon EC2 instances. EMR securely and
reliably handles a broad set of big data use cases, including log analysis, web indexing, data
transformations (ETL), machine learning, financial analysis, scientific simulation, and bioinformatics.
