Problem Statement
Recently-Graduated, Hardworking, Intelligent, Shy, Engaging College Student needs a
way to connect and feel connected to the diverse career fields of Human Geography.
Ideas
What are the most obvious solutions for this problem? (even things that you know
already exist)
1. Connect with a Human Geography professional on LinkedIn.
2. Contact former professors that work in the Human Geography Department to inquire
about connections in the discipline.
3. Attend local, regional, and/or national meetings on Human Geography.
4. Research companies that specialize in Human Geography on the internet and cold call
them.
5. Attempt to connect with former students that graduated with the stakeholder and see
what they have done with their degree.
6. Review the US Department of Labor website to see all of the different career fields for
Human Geography and connect with professionals in those fields.
7. Obtain an internship with nonprofit organizations that specialize in public health to get a
feel for what might be a unique avenue for Human Geography and make connections.
8. Identify graduate degree programs in Human Geography to obtain a more immersive
experience that could open networking doors.
9. Identify professional organizations that would provide a forum to connect with like-
minded individuals.
10. Have the stakeholder write out key terms and words that they remember from their
Human Geography classes and connect with various professionals that work in
disciplines that those key words represent.
What can you add, remove or modify from those initial solutions?
1. Connect with Human Geography and Public Health professionals on LinkedIn.
2. Attend local, regional, national, and/or international meetings on Human Geography.
3. Apply for student and/or young professional grants to attend meetings.
4. Research and identify companies that specialize in Human Geography and/or Public
Health on several forms of media.
5. Connect with former classmates on LinkedIn to stay connected and observe their career
paths into the Human Geography field.
How would a 5-year-old child solve the problem?
1. Create a phone list of Human Geography people.
2. Set-up an onsite visitation programs at Human Geography companies.
3. Provide networksof Human Geography teachers.
4. Have one location for resumes for companies to review them.
How would you solve the problem if you had an unlimited budget?
1. Create a website that connects vetted, volunteer professionals from all fields to help
mentor new grads or new entry-level personnel on navigating the their fields.
2. Help start a nonprofit that brings Human Geography and Public Health together to serve
the needs of humankind.
3. Obtain a long-term unpaid internship.
4. Create a forum for vetted, volunteer professionals to mentor undergraduate students
while they are still in school.
5. Expand colleges’ career services section to have connections in as many fields as
possible.
6. Establish a Human Geography virtual conference for professionals to present on topics
that represent the various career fields in Human Geography.
7. Donate to a college or university for the establishment of a Human Geography graduate
program.
8. Attend graduate school in England, which considered the hub of Human Geography.
9. Create a website showcasing the stakeholder that states the potential of the stakeholder
and invite professionals to connect.
10. Pay for TV, radio, and magazine ads to highlight the stakeholder’s willingness to
connect.
How would you solve the problem without spending any money?
1. Create an open Human Geography group on LinkedIn to connect all individuals that are
interested in the field.
2. Establish a Human Geography virtual conference for professionals to present on topics
that represent the various career fields in Human Geography.
3. Place an ad on Craigslist to connect with Human Geography professionals.
4. Identify the foremost experts in Human Geography and connect with them via email.
How would you solve this problem if you had control over the laws of nature (think
invisibility, teleportation, etc.)?
1. Perform Vulcan mind-melds to transfer knowledge from experience professionals to
newly-graduated college students to make them more employable at graduation.
2. Synthesize a non-additive pill to allow individuals to not have to sleep to increase the
time it takes to accrue 10,000 hours of experience to be considered an expert.
3. Create a teleportation device to allow the stakeholder to teleport to classes in England to
obtain a graduate degree in Human Geography and connect with like-minded
professionals.
4. Reverse the expectations of professionals to value inexperience over experience,
prompting professionals to seek out connections with recent graduates.
5. Develop a machine that identifies like-minded individuals by the chemical signals in the
human brain, where if they come within a certain vicinity of each other they instantly form
a connection.
6. Utilize an Ouija board to identify and connect with experts in the Human Geography
field.
7. Create a device to monitor the location in the brain where Human Geography thoughts
and ideas exist and connect with people directly into a server to share with other like-
minded individuals.
8. Create an interface for the human brain to download thoughts, ideas, memories, data,
and experiences. An individual can instantly form a connection with someone and gain
their experience by downloading it from a server.
Most Practical Idea
1. Connect with Human Geography professionals on LinkedIn.
a. This is the most practical idea due to the fact that LinkedIn has become a
significant forum for professionals to connect. This medium can be used to make
connections with professionals in the Human Geography field, which could lead
to networking opportunities.
Most Disruptive Idea
2. Create a website that connects vetted, volunteer professionals from all fields to help
mentor new grads or new entry-level personnel on navigating their fields.
a. There does not appear to a website that has a specific interest in connecting
recently-graduated college students with vetted professionals who are willing to
serve as mentors. This relationship does not have to be an in-person
relationship, but could be completely electronic. This seems to be a common
complaint among recent graduates and entry-level professionals; there is no
easy way to connect with professionals in the fields that they want to have an
established career.
Favorite Idea
3. Establish a Human Geography virtual conference for professionals to present on topics
that represent the various career fields in Human Geography.
a. Virtual conferences allow individuals to connect with other individuals in the same
or different professions from around the world. This is a great forum to identify
experts in the Human Geography field, which could lead to networking leads.
