1.the order in which we think the first stars formed. Put the steps in order.
a
A dense, hot gas ball forms at the center of a nebula, called a protostar.
b
The star burns hot, quickly exhausting its fuel and exploding in a supernova.
c
Nebulae condense into swirling disks due to the particle-to-particle attraction of gravity.
d
Hydrogen and helium form swirling clouds called nebulae.
e
Heat and pressure from the increasing density of gas causes nuclear fusion to take place.
2.Which of the following correctly summarizes how new elements are created by stellar
nucleosynthesis/supernova nucleosynthesis?
a
Stars first combined hydrogen to form helium. Over time, those stars continually combined
heavier and heavier elements until they became so dense that the stars collapsed, spreading the
elements through the universe.
b
Stars blow atoms they fuse out into space through the solar wind. When a star blows up, it makes
heavy atoms.
c
When stars collide, the heat and pressure of the collision forms new elements.
d
When a star burns, it fuses elements together to make heavier elements. When it burns out and
explodes into a supernova, elements fuse together to make heavy elements. As this process
repeated through time, heavier and heavier elements were created.
3.Which of the following correctly describes how dust and gas formed planets?
a
Gravity slowly pulled particles together into larger and larger masses within rings of the
protoplanetary disk. The larger the masses became, the greater the gravitational pull.
b
The heat of the protoplanetary disk caused materials to melt together into clumps. Collisions of
these masses grew into planets.
c
Dust and ice collided violently, smashing material together into planetesimals.
d
The solar wind forced material to gather into rings, and then material collided as it orbited the
sun, combining into huge collections of dust and gas and eventually melting into planets.

1-the order in which we think the first stars formed- Put the steps in.pdfcitychoice1

1-Geologic processes happened in the past in the same way and at the s.pdfcitychoice1
1.Geologic processes happened in the past in the same way and at the same rate that they do
today. This is called the:
a
Principle of Uniformitarianism
b
Principle of Superposition
c
Principle of Lateral Continuity
d
Principle of Cross-Cutting Relationships
2. We can see glaciers making certain landforms around the world today. What can we assume if
we see those same landforms in a place without ice?
a
That other processes are currently making the same landforms.
b
That the features associated with glaciers were made by some other process.
c
Physical processes must have occurred differently in the past.
d
That glaciers must have been present there in the past.
3. Which of the following examples best represents a relative time relationship?
a
The Civil War occurred in the middle of the 19th century.
b
The Civil War lasted four years and the Afghanistan War lasted twenty.
c
The War of 1812 happened 49 years before the Civil War.
d
The Civil war happened after the war of 1812 and before WW2.
4. Rock layers are deposited on top of each other. This means that the layer on there bottom of
the pile is older than layers on top of it. This is called the Principle of:
a
Superposition
b
Inclusions
c
Original Horizontality
d
Lateral Continuity
5. What does correlation mean in geology?
a
Matching rock layers from different areas that were formed or deposited at the same time.
b
Determining the numerical age of successive rock layers.
c
Determining the sequence of rock formation in an area.
d
Using fossils to determine the age of a rock layer.
6. What is a stratigraphic formation?
a
A rock layer that covers a broad region and is different than the rock layers above and below it.
b
A structure that was formed by natural processes.
c
A rock layer that contains a unique group of fossils.
d
Rock layers exposed on the Earth's surface.
7. Rock layers record the processes and conditions under which they formed. In this way, they
are like pages of a history book. Sometimes, erosion has removed layers of the rock record. What
is the geologic term for these missing portions of the rock record?
a
unconformities
b
intrusions
c
formations
d
contacts
8. Fossils are the remains of organisms that lived in the past. William Smith noticed that fossils
change over time; some disappear from the rock record, some make their first appearance. This
is true for rock layers of all ages, over the entire world. This recognized change of fossils
through time is called:
a
the Principle of Correlation
b
the Principle of Faunal/Fossil Succession
c
Evolution
d
Fossil Correlation
9. The geologic time scale divisions are based upon/divided by:
a
World-wide changes in the fossil record.
b
The age of specific rock layers around the earth.
c
The occurrence of geologic events.
d
How rock types changed over time.
a Principle of Uniformitarianism
b Principle of Superposition
c Principle of Lateral Continuity
d Principle of Cross-Cutting Relationships

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
