SAE International (SAE, Troy/USA) and the Virtual Dimension Center (VDC) Fellbach cooperate for this year’s AR/VR technologies symposium. The symposium will take place in Stuttgart/Germany on November 20th – 21st, 2013. This two-day symposium will focus on the technical, economic, and implementation aspects of AR/VR in all facets of design, production and manufacturing. Attendees will learn about the challenges and opportunities AR/VR presents to those interested in explor-ing these technologies within those operations. Experts from Automotive, Aerospace, Commercial Vehicle and Marine will provide case studies that showcase their utilization of AR/VR and address any challenges that they have overcome and also what barriers do they see in integrating this technology throughout their design, production and manufacturing operations. Additionally technology developers are invited to talk about specific challenges and potential solutions that the organizers feel are critical to advancing this technology. Two panel discussions - 1) The Visual Enterprise – Understanding the Busi-ness Value and of Visualization Technologies and 2) Challenges and Opportunities of AR/VR Technologies Panel Discussions: Current and Future State of AR/VR Technologies complete the symposium program.
The SAE AR/VR symposium will take place in the Pullmann Stuttgart Fontana hotel in Stuttgart/Germany on November 20th -21st 2013. Organizational details can be retrieved on the symposium’s website under http://www.sae.org/events/arvr/ .

Fellbach, 07.08.2013 – SAE International (SAE, Troy/USA) and the Virtual Dimension
Center (VDC) Fellbach cooperate for this year’s AR/VR technologies symposium.
The symposium will take place in Stuttgart/Germany on November 20th
– 21st
, 2013.
Huge variance, very emotional products, highest demands on quality of products and
development processes have pushed automotive industry to act as a driver for aug-
mented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies. The number of application
fields of AR and VR is accordingly high in this industrial sector. Use cases can be found
in the entire process chain: from early styling sketches to product development, indus-
trial engineering until 3D sales configurators.
This two-day symposium
will focus on the technical,
economic, and implementa-
tion aspects of AR/VR in all
facets of design, production

Augmented (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) software/hardware continues to grow and be
utilized in all facets of design and manufacturing. Independently, AR and VR can im-
prove various aspects of design and manufacturing. Virtual Reality’s (VR) capability
complements Augmented Reality (AR) and provides full-body motion capture and phys-

iologic performance data which feeds human modeling assessment tools already inte-
grated into the native CAD environment. Combining AR and VR can play a significant
role in getting product to market faster, safer and cheaper and give a significant order
of magnitude greater savings to our customers and increase their profit margin. There-
fore it is a natural evolution to integrate these technologies together as the first to do
so will have a large economic advantage over their competition. All the major Aero-
space Primes, Automotive OEMS and Commercial Vehicle are investigating this technol-
ogy to advance their manufacturing and design lifecycle capabilities.
