2. Rainwater catchment
What does it mean to catch rainwater?
Rainwater harvesting is the accumulation
and deposition of rainwater for reuse
before it reaches the aquifer. Uses include
water for garden, water for livestock, water
for irrigation, etc. In many places the water
collected is just redirected to a deep pit
with percolation.

4. How CCAT’s System Works
CCAT House is located on HSU campus
Its focus is to alter the way we think and use
appropriate technology
5. At First Glance
• We found the system to be standing in
good working order. The first thing you
come across when you approach the site
is the bright Rainwater catchment
explanation board. It is important for the
system to have this example and
explanation of how this system works and
how the water is used so the community
can understand the importance of
rainwater catchment

Editor's Notes
The metal sheets assist in an easy flow for the rainwater to fall into the gutter system.
These solar panels are lifted 2 to 3 inches above the roof to allow the rainwater to fall underneath them and into the gutter glow system.
The gutter system surrounds the entire roofing of the house.
The rainwater is collected in two places. First there is the side flush. This system catches any water off of the carport. This water is flowed onto a hill slop where the water is used to provide for the various CCAT agricultural growth and projects.
The second flow is the flow from the entire roofing gutters. The rainwater is put through a screening process where the water travels through a metal screen and into a pipe to head towards the first flush.
This is the 1500 gallon collection tank.
The first flush water goes through this top tube and into a 15 gallon bucket.
Once the bucket is full there is a ball that floats up the collection tube and seals of the first flush water.
Once the first flush tank and collection tube are full the ball seals of the first flush and leave the water available to collect in the 1500 gallon holding tank.
The gutters surrounding the roof are starting to show their age and use. There are multiple places where the gutters are starting to slouch or hang irregularly. This must be improved to improve the efficiency of the system.
A bigger tank is required if the system is going to be more efficient and used to its full extent.
