BLACK STUDENT UNION TO HOST #OUHOMECOMINGTOUCHTAGDAY.
ATHENS, OHIO (Oct. 8, 2015)- In the spirit of homecoming week, we are reminded
to get out on Oct. 8 as the world celebrates the annual American Touch Tag game.
The director of the E.W Scripps College School of Journalism, Bob Stewart has
encouraged all students and university faculty to get out in the fresh air away from
the classroom and office desk to play.
The Ohio University Black Student Union is hosting this year’s traditional game on
Thursday, as the Bobcat family is been ushered back to Athens this homecoming
weekend. Esther Young, the president of the association is reaching out to students,
faculty and all alumni to relinquish their stress by coming out and play from noon to
1 p.m. on College Green. She said, “It’s a chance given to everyone to forget
adulthood, and be a child again for some few hours of the day.”
Participants can use the hash tag #OUHomeComingTouchTagDay to tag the student
organization social media account. “It was fun last year, and I can’t wait to play like a
child again,” Esther Young, a second year graduate student studying accounting said.
There will be drinks and a water fountain mounted at the location to refresh
participants. Free T-shirts will be given to participants. Young reiterated that the
event would be more exciting this year as it falls on Ohio University’s Homecoming
week, and many people are expected to be in town.
The American Touch Tag game is played worldwide but with different rules. It has
been given different names based on the varieties of rules adopted by specific
audience. The same concept of running around to tag or touch someone is the basis
in all its varieties of rules. This game dates back to ancient Rome and freeze tag, kiss
tag, last tag, octopus tag are some versions of the game played across nations in the
world.
