3G refers to third generation mobile networks that allow internet connection without a modem. It provides mobile broadband and faster data rates than previous 2G networks. While 3G improved mobile internet access, it uses more battery life. The technology is used by consumers through phones upgraded to 3G standards like the iPhone 3G and by corporations to market phones' internet capabilities.
2. Connection
The term "3G" stands for "3rd Generation Mobile Telecommunications". "3G" is
a generation of standards for mobile telecommunication and mobile phones
services, that fulfill International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-
2000) specifications. The main function of this is to allow Internet connection
without the use of a modem. In addition to this, later releases of "3G" also
provide a mobile broadband which allows the user to connect to a modem
within their house. Before this, was the 2G platform and then the slowest and
first type of mobile web browsing was WAP. Unless, your phone tariff has web
included, you will be charged for the amount of time you use it for.
3. Private Use
At this present moment, I do not own a "3G" mobile phone as I rarely take
interest in the model of phone I have. With this in mind, I do have friends
which own this particular generation of phone and I can see that it’s a more
convenient way of surfing the web. The only down point being that it takes a
lot of battery life.
4. Public Use
"3G" is used by the public when consumers
buy mobile phones that have been upgraded
to "3G" standards; for example, the iPhone 3G
and 3GS that was released in 2008 through
Apple. In comparison to "2G" models; "3G"
mobile phones receive and download data
much faster. Since then, many mobile phone
models have been upgraded to "4G"; again, for
example, the iPhone 4 - released by Apple.
The main difference between "3G" and "4G" is
the Frequency Band which, on the "3G"
models is 1.8 - 2.5 GHz, whereas on the "4G"
models, it's improved to 2 - 8 GHz. Along with
this, the Data Rate has been upgraded from iPhone 4 iPhone 3G
up to 2 Mbps ("3G") to 20 Mbps ("4G").
5. Corporation Use
Corporations would use the "3G" - or
"4G" - features as a selling-point for
their products. Many of the features
each of these generation of mobile
phone standards provide, would appeal
to many consumers that have an
interest in this area. Also, there is room
for improvement, say, a 5th Generation.
This again, would be a big selling-point
for that company - especially, if the
features are something completely new
and convenient for all consumers.
