Evaluation of magazine front
  cover and contents page.
I think the colour scheme of the mast head and heading works
because they are bright and bold which makes them stand out
from other magazines and draws the readers attention.
Furthermore by having the same colour and text style for both
the mastheads and the heading it creates a housestyle.

Another thing which I think worked
well was the layout of the content
page because it was spit into sections
‘regulars’ and ‘features’ this makes it
I think the lead line works because easy to read and navigate.
it is bold and easy to read.
Moreover by placing a box in the
middle of the page it immediately
   draws the readers attention.
I think the gutter between the columns of
articles could have been made bigger so it
could clearly been seen as two columns of
text. Furthermore it would also have made it
neater and look more professional.
However I think that using columns works
because it separates the information on the
contents page which makes it easy to read
and sets a distinct design and layout.
Moreover by using grey as the spot colour it
creates a housestyle.
Some of the characters over lap the
text which make the text hard to read
and merges with the other columns, so
makes it hard to see the two columns. I
should of created a double page spread
in order to fit all of the articles on to
the page with enough room in between
the columns. This also would of allowed
me to fit more articles onto the
contents page.
However I think the writing under the
subheadings works because it expands
on the title and gives a sneak peak into
the article which makes the reader
want to read more and potentially buy
the magazine.
I found thinking up article names which were not already in magazines, finding the right style of font which was
easy to read but stylish and fitting the text onto the contents page difficult. On the other hand I found that
finding the right colours for the front cover and the boxes around the text to make it bold and bright, cutting
out the main picture and making it the right size and placing it the correct place and designing the front
cover, were to place the lead line and the other cover lines easier.
If I had all the money in the world I would get a professional picture for the main image on the front cover, a
logo which would help distinguish the magazine and a celebrity interview and image for the main image.
I would compare my college magazine contents page with Q’s contends page because they both use two main
columns with a lead picture and they split their features and regulars under two different headings. Moreover
both of their font styles are san- serif and they both have writing under the subheadings.
I would compare the front cover of my college magazine with Billboard because the main image over laps the
masthead, the lead line is bold, stands out and it is clear that it is the lead line. Furthermore the background
colour is one solid colour with contrasting writing which makes it easy to read.
