Why do we celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi?
People worship Lord Ganesha by setting his Clay Idols in Home and streets. There is no proper evidence to
show the origin of Ganesh Chaturthi, but according to Indian history, after Mughal-Maratha wars, Chatrapati
Shivaji sponsored to celebrate the festival and hence, it turned to be a major social event in India. After the
beginning of the British Rule, the Ganesha celebration lost support and turned into a private family festivity in
Maharashtra until its recovery by Indian opportunity warrior and social reformer Lokmanya Tilak.
Ganesh Chaturthi - It's Mythological History:
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the day Lard Ganesh born.
There are two distinct stories about the birth of Lord Ganesha. One has it that Goddess Parvati made Ganesha
out of earth off her body while having a shower and set him to monitor her entryway while she completes her
shower.
Shiva who has gone out, returned around then, yet as Ganesha didn't know about him, prevented him from
entering. Lord Shiva was very furious and disjoined the head of Ganesha after a fierce battle between the two.
Parvati was infuriated and Shiva guaranteed that Lord Ganesha will live again. Lord Shiva instructed devas to
search all the directions to get the dead mans skull. The devas who went looking for a head confronting north of
a dead individual could oversee just the head skull of an elephant. Shiva replaced the dead elephant's head to the
kid and bring him back to life.

help them against Rakshasas. Lord Ganesha role is to be a vighnakarta - Obstruction creater in the way of
Rakshasas, and a Vignnaharta - Obstruction remover to help Devas.
The Curse of the Moon - A fairy tale:
As a foodie, Lord Ganesha was very fond of sweets. One ordinary day, one of his followers offered him sweets,
and Lord Ganesha spent all the day enjoying the delicious sweets. At the dawn of night, he started his way back
home carrying all the sweets along with him. Accidentally he stepped over a stone, scattering all the sweets on
the ground. As he delicately picked up each sweet, the Moon God started giggling at him.
Having seen this site, an embarrassed Lord Ganesha cursed the Moon God for laughing at him with all his
pride. The Moon God apologetically turned towards Lord Ganesha, having sensed his genuine regret He offered
forgiveness. Yet Lord Ganesha cursed the Moon God that he would no longer be full all the time, but would
change its shape in the course of 15 days. As the Moon God made fun of him, Lord Ganesha declared that all
those who would view the Moon on Chaturthi would be accused of false deeds and face troubles. Anyone
accidentally viewing the Moon on that particular day, he or she would not have to face the accusations if they
listen and recite the Syamantaka Mani story from the Ancient Indian Myths.
