Ocen Godwin proposes a youth reporting SMS system to give disadvantaged youth a platform to report challenges facing their communities, such as health issues, gender violence, and drug abuse. The SMS system would establish two-way communication to find out what's happening in communities and mobilize action on issues. It would provide weekly free SMS messages and polls, as well as radio programs and newspaper articles about the issues reported by youth. The goal is to involve youth more and create a better world by addressing problems in underprivileged communities.
3. Help youths speak out on what's happening on
your community and how they need to be
helped.
Use reported SMS results and information to
update and increase community awareness for
intervention.
Participate in nations wide campaigns to help
improve life styles of unprivileged
communities .
Share what's happening around world with
other scouting team challenges the
communities are undergoing through.
4. Youth reporting SMS system is an idea which will
give platform for disadvantaged or unprivileged
youths to report the challenges they are facing or
undergoing, how they need to be helped and
group formation. Many youths are currently facing
the problems of health related issues, gender
violence and drug abuses silently.
The platform will establish a virtual youth
reporting avenue through which youths will
spread out problems facing their community for
possible intervention.
5. Many countries worldwide is still faced with youth
unemployment, violation of children's
rights, poverty, high school drop-out rates and
gender based violence and many others. The youth
are threatened by pandemic diseases i.e. HIV and
AIDS; drug abuse and many of them have found
themselves in difficult circumstances especially on
streets without basic needs i.e. food, shelter, clothing
and lack of education, all are dying behind curtain
just because they lack information.
6.
7. Need to wake-up the community and involve
young people more in the affairs that affect
them.
Youth involvement and participation is very
important because young people have the right
to be involved and to have their voice heard in
decisions that will affect them. Participation is
a fundamental right of all people regardless of
age
8. Youth reporters in partnership with challenge:
future will be giving young people
opportunities to participate in improving the
quality of life in their community and acquire
the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes to
become real agents of development through
the Short Messaging system (SMS).
Disadvantaged community will be in position
to report how they in their groups would need
to be help and the problems they face.
9. The SMS system will be free that youths will
use to report on what is happening in their
community by establishing a vibrant two-way
flow of communication. Beyond finding out
what is happening in communities, mobilizing
the community to take action on several issues
such as global HIV/AIDS, safe water , conflict
resolution and peace building, and preventing
gender based violence.
10. Stirring community based action through
Social Monitoring and youths will be given an
opportunity to contribute daily towards
creating a better world, to find ways to be
constructive, and not to leave society to the
care of others, when they themselves can be
helpful. Every challenge future team will
commit to using their competencies to help
others, to share their knowledge, and to
improve community life.
11. Youth Reporting SMS System will be made
of, Weekly FREE SMS messages and
polls, regular radio programs that will
broadcast stories Scouts and other people
report, Newspaper articles about stories you
report
12.
13. This system will be designed by students from
institute of Computer science Mbarara
University under the team leadership of Ocen
Godwin who are too ready to volunteer for
this noble course.
Looking forward to making our idea supported
and implemented for the benefit of
unprivileged community for betterment of
making world better place for all
14. In consideration that information is very
crucial and resource and a gap which we felt is
missing encouraged us to suggest that it will
advisable to institute such initiative given the
fact almost beyond half the population of the
world uses mobile phone an evidence that
gives us confidence about the project.
