How to Get the most from Your Job.
Are you starting a new job soon? Are you looking for a job? are you recently unemployed, but hope to go back to work? Are you
working, but not where you want to be? Whatever your work situation, now is a good time to plan to get the most from your job.
Ask key questions. think about what you want and ask yourself questions: What do I want to learn? what do I want to earn? who
do I want to work with? what job do I want to have a few years from now? when do I want to leave this job?
identify goals. Use your answers to the questions above to set your work goals. For example, if you want to earn $10,000 a year
more than you do now, you might set a goal to get a raise in the next six months.
Prioritize. Look at all the goals you identified. Choose 4 or 5 that are the most important to work on in the next few months.
Make a timeline. for each of 4 or 5 goals you decided to work on, break the process down into achievable steps. First decide
what you can do in the next week, then what can be done in the next few weeks. Finally,review your progress and reset goals
every 6 months.

My father learned the hard way that taking care of your health is important.
Last year he had a heart attack. He didn’t feel well,so I told him to go to the doctor. But of
course he didn’t listen . He drank several beers every day, ate a lot of junk food, and never
exercised. When he had the heart attack, it really changed his life. Since then he has exercised
and eaten better. He tried to quit smoking, but he has smoked a pack a day since he was in his
twenties, so it’s hard to quit. At least he is smoking less now, which is a good start , and he
makes regular visits to the doctor. Even if he hasn’t been sick, he makes an appointment with his
doctor every 6 months, just to be safe.

Excercise Your Right.
Next Tuesday, we will have an opportunity to excercise one of our most important rights as
citizens-the right to vote. As citizens, we not only have the right, we have the duty to vote.This
election will determine who will represent us at a local, state, and national level. We may need
to work or to go to school that day. We might want to avoid the lines at the voting places . We
may be frustrated with our political leaders and wish to stay home.
Yes, there are good reasons to stay home on Tuesday, but there are even better reasons to go
to the polls. Go early to miss the lines, get a babysister to take care of the kids, or call your boss
to explain you’ll be late, but go and vote. It’s important to participate in govermment by voting.
