2. Jose Garcia Villa
José García Villa (August 5, 1908 – February 7, 1997) was a Filipino poet,
literary critic, short story writer, and painter. He was awarded
the National Artist of the Philippines title for literature in 1973,[1]. He
used the penname Doveglion(derived from "Dove, Eagle, Lion"), based
on the characters he derived from himself. These animals were also
explored by another poet e.e. cummings in Doveglion, Adventures in
Value, a poem dedicated to Villa.[1]
3. Dodong is only 17 years
old when he wanted to get
married with Teang. He
thinks that he is already
capable of having a family
of that age. He ask his
father for his blessings
about getting married in
that early age but his father
hesitated and advise him
about the complication of
getting married so early.
As years passed that
Dodong did not noticed that it
was already 7 years of
struggling so hard to raised his
family. One day, Blas the son
of dodong ask permission
about getting married to Tena.
Just like his father, Dodong
does not want Blas get into
marriage as early age. But just
like him also, Blas insisted
about his decision.
4. The reality that the past is getting back in the
present. Dodong realized that he is actually dealing
with Youth and Love, and they both suffer triumph
over this situation. He gives his consent but he feel
sad and sorry for his own son.
5. Biag ni Lam-ang
(Life of Lam-ang) is pre-Hispanic epic poem of the
Ilocano people of the Philippines. The story was
handed down orally for generations before it was
written down around 1640.
6. Pedro Bucaneg
(March 1592 – c. 1630) was a Filipino poet.
Blind since birth, he is the acknowledged
author of the Ilocano epicBiag ni Lam-
ang (Life of Lam-ang). He is considered the
"Father of Ilocano literature." A street inside
the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)
complex in Pasay City, Philippines is named
in his honor.
His surname is lent to the Bucanegan, the
Ilocano equivalent of the Balagtasan.
7. The theme of the epic revolves
around the bravery and courage of
the main character portrayed by
Lam-ang, who was gifted with
speech as early as his day of birth,
who embarked on a series of
adventures which culminated in his
heroic death and subsequent
resurrection.
This series of adventures started with
his search for his lost father who was
murdered by the head-hunting Igorots
in the Igorot country. Lam-ang went on
until he found it necessary to rest and
take a short nap. While asleep, he
dreamed of his father’s head being an
object of festivities among the Igorots.
8. He immediately arose and
continued his journey until he
found the Igorots indeed
feasting over his father’s
head.
He fought the igorots and
eventually win by the use if
his supernatural powers.
Satisfied with his revenge, he
went home.
On his way home, he take a bath with
the ladies in the Amburayan River and
met Ines Cannoyan, his love interest.
He went into her house to court her
and ask her marriage. The parents ask
dowry and eventually Lam-ang gave
that. They get married, but there is a
tradition in nalbuan that the husband
would catch a rarang fish.
9. Lam-ang drove the sea without knowing that there is a so-
called berkakan a giant shark. Berkakan swallowed Lam-ang until
only his bones are left. Ines ask someone to get the bones of Lam-
ang in the sea. After they gathered the bones, the rooster crowed
and the bones moved. The dog barked, and Lam-ang arose and
was finally resurrected. Cannoyan embraced him. For his deep
appreciation for the help of his pets - the cock and the dog - and
of Marcus the diver, he promised that each other would get his or
its due reward. And they lived happily ever after.

11. Macariu D. Tiu is currently a resident
professor of the Ateneo de Davao
University, Davao City. As a fictionist,
his "Ang Bata na Dili Matulog" won
first prize and "Nanking Store" won
third prize in the Palanca Award. He is
a native of Davao City and presently
residing at Catalunan Grande.
12. The story tells about the
couple Linda and Peter. Tua Poy,
the narrator and the chosen one
who jumped into the couple’s
matrimonial bed so that they will
bear a son. At first the married
couple were very happy and
playful with Tua Poy.
13. The happiness and the playfulness of the
couple was just a temporary. After 5 years Tua
Poy sense that the two has encountering a
problem. Linda left the bajada house and
move the upper part of the nanking store. The
nanking store was a gift from the parents of
Peter.
14. The reason behind the problem was
Linda cannot bear a child. Because of
that, the family name of Peter was
afraid to vanished because his father
was the sole survivor of the zhin
family. Peter change a lot, that leads
him to meet the bisayan girl in the
nightspot.
15. The bisayan girl got pregnant with Peter’s child.
Peter back to himself again. When the girl gave birth to
their second baby, Peter died in a car accident. Linda went
to Peter’s burial but his mother in law ignore her
presence. Instead, her mother in law blamed her about
what happened to their family. If only she could bear a
child. At first Linda did not fought back but with the
cruelty of her mother in law she slapped her in front of
many people.
16. She is nothing to them now. So she decided to
left the nanking store. They said she is having
an affair with her driver and move out
together. But this is not proven until now, it
was only rumors.
