Casa Milagros is ideally situated as a base from which to reach some of Andalucia’s most important Heritage cities, including Antequera, Granada, Malaga, Cordoba, Seville,
Although in a very rural setting, Casa Milagros is only 800m (10 - 15 minutes easy walk) from the hamlet of Estacion De Archidona, which has a small but well-stocked shop.
Bird watching - we have seen azure-winged magpies; European Bee-eaters; and Hoopoes just in and around the olive groves......
Fuente de Piedra (just beyond Antequera) is a must for bird watchers, and at certain times of the year (May/ June) the lake turns pink with flamingoes who have come here to breed and raise their young.Star-gazing - the absence of light pollution means you can see stars you never knew existedWalking - the terrain around Casa Milagros is generally reasonably easy - there are many slopes and hills, but the gradients are quite gentle.
Nature - the stunning limestone rock formations at El Torcal are well worth a visit. Parque Lobo, near Antequera, is devoted to the conservation and understanding of Wolves, and holds BBQ Howl Nights in the summer months
In the north of Málaga Province, about 50 kilometres from Málaga City (and 20 kilometres from Antequera), at the foothills of the Sierra de Gracia, is the welcoming village of Archidona. Bordering on the Granada Province, Archidona sits at the very centre of Andalucia, 660 metres above sea level. The town of Archidona is some 5 km (about 10 - 15 minutes drive), and is a typical Andalucian hill town, with narrow streets and the Plaza Ochavada, built in 18th century. There are many bars and restaurants, as well as a new Mercadona supermarket with a large car park.
About 20 minutes drive away is the beautiful ancient town of Antequera, with many shops, bars, cafes and restaurants along its narrow winding streets. This town has been inhabited for thousands of years, and there are sites from pre-historic and Roman days. There is a modern Centro Comercial (air conditioned shopping centre) called La Veronica which has plenty of shops and a huge Eroski supermarket where you can buy anything from furniture, CDs books, stationery, clothes etc to groceries. La Veronica also has an 8 screen cinema (but the films will be dubbed in Spanish!).
Malaga – 30 – 45 mins driveAirport 1 hr, Málaga is more than just an arrival and departure point. Visit the old town with its narrow village style streets which are flushed with the scent of jasmine while locals sit chatting about days gone by. As with so many Spanish cities the evening is the perfect time to stroll, stop and enjoy drink and a bite to eat while watching the world go by.Málaga city has a cultural side, museums and galleries- including Picasso’s home - to satisfy the traditional and historical visitor.
Cordoba – 1 ¼ hours driveThis rural province sweeps down from the north where the Sierra Morena mountains dominate across open countryside to the provincial capital city, Córdoba. The valley with the Rio Guadalquivir running along its bottom separates the north and south part of the city.In the centre of the city is the Mezquita - arguably the most exquisite mosque ever built by the Moors. As you make your way towards the Mezquita take a detour through the many narrow streets that make up the old Moorish and Jewish quarters.
