2.  David Schnell, the director of Christ
Kitchen in San Diego, California, spent
nearly three decades serving the U.S.
Navy before retiring with the rank of
captain. Over the course of 27 years,
Captain David Schnell commanded two
warships. Captain Schnell was awarded
the Meritorious Service Medal as well as
the Marine Corps Achievement Medal
and a number of additional accolades.

3.  The Navy’s Meritorious Service Medal, first introduced
in 1969, signifies exemplary service carried out by a
member of the United States Armed Forces or an
individual serving the armed forces of an allied
foreign nation. The award, similar to the Legion of
Merit, is distributed to individuals who have
demonstrated outstanding service in such a way that
many others take note of the actions, in particular,
key members of the armed forces. This award is
thought of as the non-combat version of the Bronze
Star. If the outstanding service in question does not
entirely meet the criteria of the Meritorious Service
Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal may serve
as an appropriate substitute.
