Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the program which has been reopened on May 1 this year
would be accepting 25,000 applications.
Individuals with skills, talent and experience would be invited under this category. The maximum
number of applications that can be taken under each of the 50 occupationsmentioned in the list of
eligible occupations would be 1,000.
An applicant who already holds an offer from an employer in Canada would not be included in this
entire procedure of capping.
Change in National Occupation Classification
The list has been upgraded with 50 occupationsfinding a place which was restricted to 24 till last
year. The applications would be accepted from May 1 of this year to April 30 of next year.
The widening of the list and the inclusion of many professions opens door of Canada to many skilled
immigrants.
Changes for IT professionals
All this while IT professionals for belonging Computer Engineering and Computer programing were
included in the list of eligible occupations under FSWP. The capping was also restricted to the
number of 300 per profession only. Now five more occupations have been included with each having
a cap of 1000. This would mean that 5000 IT professionals can enjoy the benefit of FSWP whereas
earlier only 600 of them could come to Canada under this program.
These professionals would also become the permanent residents. As a result Canada would be rich
in a population that would have system analysts, consultants, administrators, engineers, designers,
programmers, developers and technicians in the field of IT, even though not in the form of Citizens
but permanent residents.
IT professionals would have a more than 700% of chances than before for becoming a part of
Canadian success story.
The process of making an application
A detailed study of the procedure needs to be made to see if an IT professional fits into the category
or not. One must consider the following points before making an apparition
 The skill should fall under either O (managerial level), A (Professional level) or B (technician
level) of NOC list released by CIC.
 One should have an experience of working for a full time job, continuously for one year
under for the skill one has acquired. This should be within last ten years and should be with
any break.

2.  One has to submit all the required credentials after verification, language proficiency
documents from a recognized body and other details as required by CIC.There are certain
recognized institutions for verifying educational credentials obtained in a foreign country
against Canadianstandards.
Reopening of federal Skilled Worker program has given galore of opportunities to many who were
not eligible to apply under this category before. One must look into the details and see where his or
her skill fits in and then start the process of applying. The applicant should be careful enough to
evaluate the requirements and submit all the relevant documents for avoiding any chance of getting
