1. Identification of Audience and Motive
According to Graeme Burton, audiences fall into two different
categories. Socially grouped audiences and media grouped
audiences. Socially grouped audiences are grouped by age,
race, gender, class, place in society etc. Media grouped
audiences are grouped by their relationship with the media
such as computer game users and film goers. The target
audience for my music magazine will be both of these
groups.etc
Other theorists have expanded on this theory
Hartley further identifies the importance of
self: audiences can be grouped by their aspirations, etc. for
example, if you target ambitious people such as musicians, you
can offer a motive such as performance enhancement.
