This document discusses the use of Strongwell DURADEK® I-6000 1-1/2” fiberglass gratings in the construction of The ISF (Independent School Foundation) Academy (Kong Sin Wan Tsuen) in Hong Kong. The gratings were used for air-conditioning louvers, sun-shading devices, maintenance platforms, and walkways due to their high strength, light weight, rust resistance, and ease of fabrication. Their flexibility also allowed designers to customize the bearing bar shapes, spacing, and cross-rod spacing to meet specific design requirements.

Strongwell DURADEK® I-6000 1-1/2” fiberglass gratings used in
this project are pultruded using polyester resin with flame
retardant and ultraviolet (UV) inhibitor additives. The synthetic
surface veil, impregnated with resin, being the outmost layer
covering the exterior surface, provides a 100% pure resin
surface for added corrosion resistance and UV protection. The
patented 3-piece cross-rod assembly used in DURADEK®
makes it sturdy and stable to be cut and fabricated like a solid
sheet.
The high strength, light weight, rust free and easy-to-fabricate
combination of DURADEK® I-6000 1-1/2” gratings has allowed it
to be the one-stop selection for exposed conditions: Louvers
for air-conditioning units; Sun shading devices; Maintenance
platforms; Walkways and etc. Bearing bar shapes and spacing
and also the cross-rod spacing are all variable for choice to suit
design requirement. This flexibility just gives designer increased
freedom to choose for their specific application needs.
