Without strong supports for self-care, adults who work with youth — especially those who have been impacted by trauma — can quickly burn out. This session will provide participants with examples of ways that organizations can build a culture of self-care that results in greater capacity to cultivate and maintain the important relationships required to overcome the impacts of trauma (this includes relationships with youth themselves and also among the partnerships that maintain a “web of support” for them to access). This session will also share strategies that participants can use on their own to take care of their physical, mental, and emotional health to optimize professional engagement and performance.

Becoming the Kind of Leader You Admire - The Endless Journey The process of becoming a great leader is perpetual. It is an endless journey of self-discovery. There will be successes along the way, but no failure, only feedback from which you can choose to learn and grow. Sometimes the challenges you face will seem too enormous for you, but you will benefit more from the difficult parts of your travels than the easy roads. There will never be a convenient time for you to invest in developing yourself as a leader. You may be fortunate enough to have help – a mentor, coach or guide who provides valuable advice or support in your quest to become a great leader – but no one can give you what you deny yourself. And do not wait until you are given a position of leadership. Commit today to becoming the kind of leader you admire regardless of your role or title in your organization. This module will challenge you to set goals for your leadership development that extend far into the future, clearly imagining yourself as the leader you admire and then taking steps to become more like that leader every day. As you look back on your journey from the far future you will be amazed at your progress!

Many organizational changes founder and plod toward uncertain and disappointing results. Why? Because most most change processes assume a simple step-wise approach to a complex issue. Complex change requires leadership that connects, recognizes that emotional responses matter, and change can't be driven, only supported. --------------- About Esther Derby I consult with you to help you develop a holistic view of your organization and take action to achieve optimum success. I coach you to boost your effectiveness and confidence as a manager, and I deliver workshops that bring insights to life, build skills, and engage your people in learning. Frederick Wallace "Fred" Smith (born August 11, 1944), is the founder, chairman, president, and CEO of FedEx Corporation, a $45-billion global transportation, business services and logistics company, originally known as Federal Express, the first overnight express delivery company in the world, and the largest in the world Background: Smith is responsible for providing strategic direction for all FedEx Corporation operating companies, including FedEx Services, FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Freight. FedEx serves more than 220 countries and territories with operations that include 634 aircraft and over 90,000 vehicles. More than 300,000 team members worldwide handle more than 10 million shipments each business day. Since founding FedEx in 1971, Smith has been an active advocate of regulatory reform, free trade and "open skies agreements" for aviation around the world. FedEx has continued to strengthen its industry leadership over the past 40 years, and has been widely acknowledged for its commitment to total quality service. FedEx Express was the first service company to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1990. FedEx has consistently been ranked on FORTUNE magazine’s industry lists, including “World’s Most Admired Companies”, “100 Best Companies to Work For” and is on FORTUNE’s Blue Ribbon Companies List. Many of us in government want to change the way our agencies work. These changes can take many forms. Some of us may want to fix a process or change/eliminate counterproductive rules. Others may wish to shoot for more ambitious goals that require a change of culture. The current push to expand the use of collaboration tools like Web 2.0 technologies is one example of a big and important culture change.Effecting change in a large organization is difficult. Those difficulties can be magnified greatly in the public sector. Entrenched rules and structures pose many obstacles. Resource limitations often seem to be the things in greatest abundance. And the possibility of criticism from senior bosses, Congress and the media tends to make many managers risk averse. So how does one overcome all these obstacles to bring about significant positive change? Here is the 12 step guide.

You're smart. You deliver. What else could your company want from you? Why don’t they come to you for the big decisions? Why won’t they listen to your proposals? It seems like everyone has an agenda and they’re doing everything they can to kill your great ideas. To be effective leader we must bring more than our academic pedigrees to an organization. This session attempts to explain the complex nature of organizational politics and how to survive in a dynamic and often chaotic environment.

Managerial Group Relationship, A managerial group relationship refers to the dynamics and interactions among individuals who hold managerial positions within an organization. These relationships play a crucial role in shaping the overall functioning and effectiveness of the management team. Here are some key aspects of managerial group relationships: Communication: Effective communication is vital for building and maintaining strong relationships within a managerial group. Managers need to communicate openly, honestly, and frequently to ensure that information flows smoothly and that everyone is on the same page. Trust and Respect: Trust and respect are the foundation of any healthy relationship, including managerial group relationships. Managers should trust and respect each other's expertise, decisions, and contributions. Trust enables collaboration, fosters teamwork, and promotes a positive work environment. Collaboration and Cooperation: Managers within a group should work together collaboratively, rather than in silos. They should share knowledge, resources, and ideas, and collaborate on projects and problem-solving. Cooperation among managers strengthens the overall effectiveness of the management team and enhances organizational performance. Support and Encouragement: Managers should support and encourage each other's professional growth and development. They should provide feedback, guidance, and mentoring when needed. A supportive managerial group fosters a culture of continuous learning and helps individual managers reach their full potential. Conflict Resolution: Conflicts are inevitable in any group, including managerial teams. However, effective managerial group relationships involve the ability to handle conflicts constructively. Managers should be skilled in resolving conflicts through open dialogue, active listening, and finding win-win solutions that address the underlying issues. Shared Goals and Vision: A strong managerial group relationship is built on shared goals and a common vision for the organization. Managers should align their objectives and strategies, ensuring that they work collectively towards the achievement of organizational objectives. Role Clarity and Coordination: It is important for managers to have clear roles and responsibilities within the group. Role clarity helps in avoiding overlaps and ensuring smooth coordination. Managers should have a clear understanding of each other's roles and actively coordinate their efforts to maximize efficiency and minimize duplication. Overall, a positive and effective managerial group relationship promotes a collaborative, supportive, and productive work environment. It enhances decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational performance, ultimately leading to success for the organization as a whole.
