The initial work focus has been to support the validation of CFD in-cylinder modeling using laser-based optical techniques such as PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) and LDA (Laser Doppler Anemometry). This was followed by high-speed imaging of fuel spray development and flame growth. Further projects are now underway to gather the necessary data for thermodynamic analysis and to investigate the influence of alternative fuels and variable valve actuation systems on engine efficiency and exhaust emissions. Access Research Engine MAHLE Powertrain currently has two single cylinder Technical Data research engines running at University College, London. Displacement (VH) 0.48 l They are located in a dedicated facility and operated by a team of technical specialists and research personnel who Bore Diameter 82.5 mm (up to 100 mm) are at the forefront of engine combustion research and Stroke 88.9 mm analysis.
