Editor's Notes
The Miser family is a line of occupancy-based energy control products.
VMs are occupancy-based energy control units. If there is occupancy in the vending machine area, the machine will always be available for use. Energy savings result from powering down the machines lights and evaporator fans. The evaporator fan is a main source of heat within the vending machine cabinet. Shutting down the fan when not needed reduces the amount of refrigeration needed to keep the product cold. When the evaporator fan is off, cold air stratifies at the bottom of the cabinet ensuring that the next to vend product remains within temperature specifications. The VM meets Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola's temperature requirements. The return on the investment is generally 12-24 months depending on the utility rates at the placement location.
A passive infrared (PIR) Sensor detects people up to 15 feet away. This allows the vending machine to power up by the time a customer is ready to use the machine, yet is unaffected by traffic outside the sensor range. Once the PIR sensor detects no occupancy for 15 minutes, the VM completely powers off the vending machine as long as the refrigeration compressor is not running. If the compressor is running, the power-down is delayed until the current cycle is completed. While in energy savings mode the VM monitors the ambient temperature of the external environment. Depending on the temperature, the VM automatically restores power to the machine every 1-3 hours to maintain product temperature. Once the power to the machine is restored the vending machine refrigeration system must go through one complete cycle before it will go back into energy savings mode. If a customer approaches the vending machine while powered down, the VM will sense the person's presence and power up immediately.
There are two mounting options for the VM. The sensor assembly and VM are mounted to the wall in the standard configuration. The Easy-Install option allows the VM to be mounted directly to the vending machine using hi-strength Velcro without the use of tools. Both installation options require a minimum amount of time. VM has been tested and accepted by use by both major bottlers -- Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola companies. In addition, major vending machine manufacturers (Dixie-Narco, Royal and Vendo) have tested VM. Compatible with most cold drink vending machines, the VM reduces the run time of the machines -- reducing maintenance costs. Not compatible with electronically controlled vending machines that do not have a battery backup. 100,000 units have been sold to colleges, school districts, government offices, retail stores and hospitality properties. 5-year warranty!
Utilities nationwide offer rebates on the purchase of VM ranging from $30-$120 per unit. Another 100 electric utilities have participated or are currently participating in the VM turnkey program. Through this program, utilities purchase the units and provide them to customers for free.
The VendingMiser can generate energy savings in many different types of locations. Federal Facilities-Over 60 sites City, County, State- More than 40 government locations Colleges/Universities-178 School Districts-125 districts with over 1200 schools. Savings are primarily dependent on occupancy, so a 24 hour location would not be a good spot for a VM equipped vending machine.
The Miser line of energy saving products include the: VendingMiser, a break-through in the power control of cold beverage vending machines. CoolerMiser, a patented technology, controls glass-front coolers that contain non-perishable goods. SnackMiser controls non-refrigerated snack vending machines. PlugMiser saves energy on all types of plug loads, such as arcade games, computer monitors, task lights, radios, copiers, personal printers, space heaters and more.
