2. Universal Studios Inc. (also known as Universal Pictures), is an
American film studio, owned by Comcast through its wholly owned
subsidiary NBCUniversal, and is one of Hollywood's "Big Six" film
studios. Its production studios are at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive
in Universal City, California. Distribution and other corporate offices
are in New York City.
They have made over 200 films such as thriller hits like Jurassic
Park and Psycho.
They tend to focus on drama, action and romance with more recent
blockbusters like Atonement and Brokeback Mountain.
Because their focus is more so on these types of genres; with their
movies tending to be quite high budget I do not think this institution is
for me, as my film is very low budget.
3. Lionsgate is a Canadian-American entertainment company. The company
was formed in Vancouver, British Columbia, 1997, and is headquartered in
Santa Monica, California. As of November 2013, it is the most commercially
successful mini major film and television distribution company in North
America and the seventh most profitable movie studio the name refers to the
Vancouver landmark, the Lions Gate bridge.
They are known to produce and distribute motion pictures, television
programming and even family entertainment.
Lionsgate have produced and distributed films like Hunger Games, Hunger
Games: Catching Fire, Gone, The Cabin in the Woods and the television
series Mad Men.
From looking at the types of films they produce and their many success I
have realised that Lionsgate is a suitable option as my film institution. They
have films that are classed as the thriller/horror and suspense.
4. Founded in 1935 20th Century Fox is an American film studio,
distributor and one of the six major American film studios. Located in
the Century City area of Los Angeles, just west of Beverly Hills, the
studio used to be a subsidiary of News Corporation, but is now a
subsidiary of 21st Century Fox.
20th Century Fox has distributed famous film series, including
Avatar, the first two Star Wars trilogies, Ice Age, Power Rangers, X-
Men, Die Hard, Home Alone and many more.
In the thriller genre they have distributed Unstoppable, Memento and
Taken.
This industry seems to focus on family films with their film success
mainly coming from this genre this is why 20th Century Fox isnt
suitable for me.
