For example, one often hears the statement quot;racism is just human nature.quot; Buried in that statement is the implication that since there isn't much we can do about human nature, there isn't much we can do about racism either. According to this point of view, racism is constant, unchanging, like the weather, the moon or the seasons. Understanding history is a good antidote to that kind of pessimism. If we can show that racism has a beginning, then the quot;human naturequot; argument obviously doesn't hold much water. - Would you want to be listening to your presentation?
- I once sat through a presentation by a senior school board official who FOR ONE HOUR stood and READ the presentation slides to an audience of 900 people. Your audience is not 4 years old. Don’t insult them by reading your slides. The brain processes graphic information 15,000 times faster than the listening. Most people do not read and listen at the same time effectively.
