2. 1. In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products
1)Title of the Magazine:
The main title I have used (the mast head) is “rhythm”, for the font of the text
I used is “Ravie” the font was used directly from Photoshop. I used simple
colour like black apart from the blue two “H”. The reason this is coloured
separately is because it represents the word Hip-Hop which is also coming
off the two letters, this is considered part of the masthead. I chose to use the
colours blue as they bring a nice range as its not simple and black as people
might think it’s a more rock related magazine.
The magazine “Respect” has also got the title
separated into sections so that the title is more clear to
read. There is also two different colours involved in the
title and title background so that it doesn't look like the
plain ‘rock’ stereotype.
3. • The contents page I have made looks professional, the layout is simple as it has
once again the name of the magazine, header at the top separated by a thin, simple
line. The layout of the text below it al done specially, as they have all been slanted.
The colour scheme is a while background with hints of cyan around the pages, for
example the borders and the background of certain features of the page. Such as the
page information's.
This magazine called Base
for example has a similar
layout to mine as the header
is at the top followed by the
page information and
numbers. The colour scheme
is also the same as they used
a white plain background and
their own signature colour
which in this sittuation is red.
4. • My double page spread has a similar layout to other hip hop magazines as it
is containing a big picture on the left hand side and pure text on the right
hand side. The title of the double page spread is large and bold. It has the
main colour of black but also follows the code of the blue in the right hand
side of the page. As you can see the second double page spread also has a
big picture of an artist and text on the right hand side. The title of that page
also has been made clear with its special choice of font. The people in both
double page spread represent the culture of hip hop with the tattoos and the
accessories.
5. 22.How does your media product
represent particular social groups
• The image I have chose to describe about the particular social groups is the
picture on my double page spread, this shows how the stereotype of the
social group is, as he is classed as someone with lots of money and cares
about his appearance as he has lots of expensive accessories such as the
hat, watch and the music items such as his earphones.
As you can see there is also this
magazine with a picture of Jay-Z.
He also is wearing a same style
hat, with accessories. So overall
the social group is represented as
a rich person who cares about
their clothing and etc.
6. 3.What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
• The media institution I thought would be best to distribute my media product
is Bauer Media, the reason I think this is because I believe it would benefit
my magazine well as they are famous so I would get allot of attention and
people would think the magazine is going to be good by just looking at the
distributer. Another reason is that this media institution has got good
experience with hip hop magazines so they would be the right choice for me
as my media product is also in the same genre as Vibe So they already
have a customer base for hip hop magazines and that's why they have the
number of fan base.
7. 4.Who would the audience be for your
media product?
• The audience for media product would be 16-30 year olds, male and
female, the reason this would be is young teenagers seem to like
the hip hop genre as it is socially correct for their social groups. Also
media products like mine are easily spread around in peer groups
such as 16-18 year olds. However people at the age of 30 might still
enjoy the magazine as they want to stay up to date. People who like
to listen to music such as Eminem, 50 cent, jay-z and etc. They
might also look onto being future hip hop artists themselves.
8. 5.How did you attract/address
your audience
My target audience is for both males and females
so I tried to address them with titles and
language style that would be appealing for both
males and females. So therefore I didn't use
language that would just appeal to men, such as
short slangs. I therefore used plain English
modern language so that both the genres and all
age groups would be comfortable with the
magazine.
9. 6.What have you learnt about technologies
during the process of construction this
magazine
• During the creation of my magazine I used many forms of
technologies to improve my work. Firstly I used my college
computer and my Toshiba laptop to complete all the work. I then
took pictures for my magazines using the college camera. During
the creation of the magazine pages I had to learn Adobe Photoshop
and InDesign. I used both of these programs to edit my images, by
cropping them and etc. I also produced the actual pages in the
programs. I also used Microsoft PowerPoint to
put together my evaluation and
other tasks such as my
questionnaire analysis, this was vital
as PowerPoint was the only best
way to do this.
10. • In addition I also used the blogger website to create an account,
there I placed the screenshots, pictures and the rest of the tasks. I
also used slide share to import my PowerPoint slides into it, so then
I imported the link into blogger so the marker would be presented
with a nice way of flicking through the slides using the simple
buttons.
• Overall I have learnt a lot about technology when I was performing
on this media product; before creating my media product I had
never used Slideshare, Blogger, InDesign or Adobe Photoshop.
also, I'd never actully set up a link to paste to other sites where the
users can view my work easily. However I now feel confident in
using all of them.
11. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what
do you feel you have learnt in the progression
from it to the full product?
• It is fair to say that at the begging of the year when I had started my
preliminary task I has absolutely no experience in terms of making,
editing or finishing a media product, even my picture taking skills
have improved over the course of this period. For example I
struggled to make simple titles or change the colour of my font.
However now I can easily and professionally manipulate images to
make it look attractive. I can also make the finished product more
appealing and professional by tweaking around with it to for
example change the colour schemes or the layout of the images,
text and etc. Furthermore I also learnt about using two different sites
such as blogger and slide share, these are very good tools for
creating presentations and presenting them to audiences in a user
friendly way, I didn't know about this in the past, and will use it in the
future. Below are some evidence to how I think I have improved
over the tasks.
