2. Music video with a literal narrative – Last Friday night
“There’s a stranger in by bed.” (Katy Perry) “My favourite party dress”
“Pictures of last night ended up online” “We danced on table tops”
This music video supports Andrew Goodwin’s idea because this music video has a very literal
narrative. His is shown by having a shot of what the lyric is saying. This happens throughout
the video and the lyrics in the song are stated in different ways in the video. It is clear what is
happening in this video and fits well with the theme of the song.
3. Videos with metaphorical narrative – Ugly
(sugababes)
This video supports Andrew Goodwin’s theory in some ways but goes against it
in others. This video explains the theme of the song rather than the actual
lyrics. The song is called Ugly and throughout has people who are individual and
says that they are equal. This theme is made clear throughout but doesn’t
actually take a line of the song and film it happening.
4. Video with no narrative – Love on top (beyonce)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob7vObnFUJc
This video goes against Andrew Goodwin’s theory because there is no
narrative at all. This song is about a couple and could easily have a
narrative created but the video only has the artist performing in
different dance studios with no narrative at all which doesn’t fit in with
the song.
