6. HISTORY ABOUT THESE
AWARDS
This is the 2nd time Botswana will be hosting the event of this magnitude
and for the first time, the platform has attracted Batswana across all
sectors of the economy; inclusive of women owned enterprises. Botswana
has had the privilege of hosting the awards in 2013, but participation of
local enterprises was dismal. The competition is wide open for all
business community members but what’s worth noting is the remarkable
participation of Batswana women in the small and medium category.
According to Ms. Diane Sibanda, “these changes have been a long time
coming because we wanted the competition to be all inclusive”. The
competition has been imposing for only the 5 categories; thus leaving out
those in small and medium industries. The last meeting in Johannesburg
in June 2015 marked a milestone in incorporating such changes. These
changes will encourage fair representation for even the small enterprises
because they contribute enormously to Botswana’s economy.
