2. SUMMARY
In this article author says about the logistics is a way to movement of good from one
location to another location. Logistics plays a major role in the both world wars. All the activities
and methods connected with the supply of arm force organizations, including storage
requirements, transport and distribution. Over the time logistics moved into the business arena.
Logistics defined as management of all inbound and out bound materials , parts, supplies and
finished goods. It is also consists of integrated management of purchasing , transportation and
storage on functional basis. Logistics beyond merely physical distribution by incoming and
outgoing materials. Logistics is not for the service users but the organization also has a
significant number of logistics service suppliers like warehouses, carriers etc. supply chain
management starts early with the textile industry. For due to the intense competition the industry
formed a group and started survey for supply chain taking time for the delivery of goods. For this
the industry is in the major losses. The result of this study was the development of the quick
response strategy (QR). QR is a partnership where retailers and suppliers work together to
respond more quickly to consumer needs by sharing the information.. Supply chain is the process
from the initial raw materials to the ultimate consumption of the finished products linking
supplier-user companies.
The functions within and outside a company that enables the value chain to make
products and provide services to customer. Supply chain is term used in the logistics
professionals in way of every effort involved in the producing and delivering the final product
from the supplier’s supplier to customer’s customer. In this four basic steps are plan , source,
make, deliver. Supply chain management was emerging, one that “includes the integration of
business process from end use through original suppliers that provides products services, and
information that add value to the customers. Supply chain management is not another name for
logistics. It include the elements that are not typically included in a definition of logistics, such
as information system integration and coordination of planning and controlling activities. Supply
chain management includes logistical flows. The variety of definitions indicates that there is a
general agreement on what logistics entails. The common thing in all the definitions is logistics
is entailed process of planning and controlling the flow and storage of goods and services from
the point of origin to the customer conforming to customer requirements.
