1. Dear Tyra,
I am writing you concerning a sponsorship opportunity with the 2014 Scissortail Street
Competition.
Like you, I’m interested in seeing our great city achieve its even greater potential. One of
the ways it can do that is to develop a vibrant city that offers an array of unique
experiences for Tulsans of all walks of life. In my career as a restaurant owner, I’ve come
to learn that many of Tulsa’s most creative people don’t feel that their city has a place for
them.
In 2013, in an attempt to help solve that problem, we created Scissortail. Scissortail is an
organization whose vision is to help create a sense of place for young creative Tulsans.
Our first event, The Scissortail Street Competition, held in October 2013, featured two days
of BMX and skate competitions, a battle of the bands, and a street art competition. The
event was a great success and has Tulsa’s youth begging for round two.
Our hope continues to be that these young Tulsans will realize that their city doesn’t
simply tolerate them, it celebrates them.
This year we’re taking the event to a new level. We’ve upped our game in the live music
department by partnering with The Buffalo Lounge to bring in the top talent from across
the state. The two-day music festival will feature the state’s top acts, fresh off their
performances at SXSW. The action sports element has also received a substantial shot in
the arm, with our partnership with USA BMX. Our large dirt ramp will feature pro riders
from across the US performing stunts in the shadow of the Tulsa skyline. The street art
segment is also expanding, attracting top street artists from the region, not just to
compete in the competition, but also to install public art across the city in the weeks
leading up to the event.
Today’s youth will be making decisions about whether or not to call Tulsa home in the
next decade. Help us to make it an easy choice. Your tax deductable sponsorship will help
us to grow Scissortail into a nationally known brand in the world of action sports and will
create an event unlike any other for Tulsans and visitors alike.
Thanks,
Blake
