Using a web editor with Blackboard

You may be used to using a text editor to
combine text and pictures.
It works well for documents.
Sometimes it is acceptable for webpages
The problem is that when it converts
document to web, a text editor, such as
Word, it does an approximate
conversion, and fine tuning the editing
can be frustrating because you cannot
override the code.
A better practice is to keep your content
well away from a text editor and work
directly Blackboard, or in a web or html
editor

2. Using a web editor with Blackboard
Here is a section of Blackboard we can edit with a web editor
Click on the HTML toggle.
You can either edit this directly, or, copy it into a web editor for editing

3. Wysiwyg web editor
A web editor will be able to toggle between html code and a wysiwyg web page.
You should be able to edit in either.
I want to add a picture for which I have a web address -

I use this code for adding a picture at the end of my html code:
<img src="my web address" alt="description of the image">
So I add <img src="http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww173/prestonjjrtr/Funny/701-thumb.gif"

A web editor will be able to toggle between html code and a wysiwyg web page.

4. But it would look better if the waving kitty was alongside the text. So I will use a two column table.
This is the code I use to wrap text and picture in a table <table><tr><td>text</td><td>picture</td></tr></table>
Now I copy the html code from the web editor, and paste it into the HTML code view of Blackboard.
Click update and then Submit.

5. Help, I put in extra line space for headings,
and Blackboard deleted it!
Blackboard automatically does a little housekeeping and corrects your mistakes, like deleting
double spaces and double returns
Seems sensible to a programmer, but not to a learning psychologist who sees the value of white
space around concepts.
So if you want to change to
use Return Space Return instead of Return Return to defeat BB housekeeping.
