2. About Metro Screen
• Metro Screen is a not‐for‐profit organisa<on based in Sydney founded to provide the community access to
media training and produc<on facili<es at liAle to no cost.
• Metro Screen is an RTO and provides high quality voca<onal training in the areas of film, television and
new media produc<on.
• In tandem with our community minded social mission to provide access and equity is a commitment to
meet industry needs.
• Through core funding from Screen NSW and Screen Australia, Metro Screen is a hub for emerging
prac<<oners, a place where employers find new talent and crea<ve collabora<on takes place.

3. Purpose of E‐Merge
• The intent of the Metro Screen E‐merge project is to provide access for regional learners to accredited film
and media training.
• There are limited opportuni<es for Regional learners interested in pursuing a career in the screen and
media industries to access media based training.
• Screen and Media training is necessary in rural and remote communi<es to foster local content and
support community stories outside of those told from the ci<es
• Par<cularly in regional Indigenous communi<es storytelling is intrinsic to culture and heritage and if given
permission from Elders, should be recorded for genera<ons to come

• There were three contras<ng learner groups within regional loca<ons that were seeking to gain accredited
screen and media training, they included:

8. Further benefits of E‐Merge to Regional
Communi<es
• Through the crea<on of E‐merge, learners have the opportunity to access screen and media training from
their desktop computer and build industry knowledge that will enable them to seek employment.
• Further to this, the E‐merge site has created film and media produc<on hubs within regional NSW.
• It is important that regionally based produc<on is nurtured so that a diversity of stories and perspec<ves
may be heard across media plaXorms.
• In order that greater numbers of regional learners can par<cipate in media training our project provided a
pilot that integrated e‐learning into two face‐to‐face regional courses in 2009.

9. How the Resources were used by Learners
E‐merge as a pilot e‐learning website that was trialled in tandem with two regionally based courses
The Silver Sun Documentary Project
• Professionals looking to up skill
• The learner group comprises of photographers, marke<ng managers, cinematographers and produc<on
managers. The skill sets of these people are diverse and all learners are technically savvy.
• To facilitate knowledge sharing we embedded social networking tools on the Metro e‐Screen site
u=lising web 2.0 technologies such as Blogger and Skype to connect learners through the produc=on
phase of the documentary.

10. How the Resources were used by Learners
E‐merge as a pilot e‐learning website that was trialled in tandem with two regionally based courses

• The learner group comprises of young people with learning barriers
• To facilitate knowledge sharing we used the E‐Merge video tutorials and online quiz as well as uploading
s=lls from their projects to the site.
