This document discusses building a firm foundation through Jesus Christ. It covers a Bible passage where Jesus tells a parable about building a house on a rock or on sand. Building on the rock of Christ's teachings can withstand storms, while building on sand will cause a house to collapse. The document explores applying Christ's words, enduring storms by relying on the foundation, and recognizing Jesus as the solid rock on which to build a lasting foundation. It provides discussion questions about building deep through Christ and discerning true foundations.

6. BIBLE PASSAGE
24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does
them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew
and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had
been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these
words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish
man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell,
and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against
that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were
astonished at his teaching, 29 for he was teaching them as
one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

What “words” is

18. DISCUSSION
1. Given that great men have failed, how do we
ensure that we are building deep and not only
high?
2. What are the signs that we are building on
Christ?
3. How do we ensure material is right (gold not
straw)?
4. What encouragement can we derive when we
find we often stand alone?
Stand tall though others fall
Seven years ago we began building a house. Scrub brush had been cleared away. The dozer had come to dig the hole for the foundation to be poured. Lori took the kids to see the progress. When they arrived they eagerly piled out of the van and ran to see what had been done. As they looked into the hole where the foundation would soon be poured, four–year–old Joshua stood staring with a perplexed look on his face. After a moment he blurted out: “Where’s the rock?” Lori had no idea what he was referring to. She said, “What rock?” Joshua replied, “The rock that the wise man built his house upon.” Joshua wasn’t trying to be cute or funny. He just remembered that a wise man must build his house upon the rock—He wanted to be assured that our house would have a rock!
In 1992, Hurricane Andrew destroyed thousands of homes in South Florida. Yet in an area where the wreckage looked like a war zone, one house remained standing, still firmly anchored to its foundation. When a reporter asked the homeowner why his house had not been blown away, he replied, “I built this house myself. I also built it according to the Florida state building code. When the code called for 2” x 6” roof trusses, I used 2” x 6” roof trusses. I was told that a house built according to code could withstand a hurricane—and it did.” https://bible.org/seriespage/12-storm-warning-matthew-724-29
Hurricane Andrew was, at the time of its occurrence in August 1992, the most destructive hurricane in United States history. It caused major damage in the Bahamas and Louisiana, but the greatest impact was in South Florida, where it made landfall at Category 5 hurricane intensity on the Saffir–Simpson hurricane scale, with wind speeds up to 165 mph (270 km/h). Passing directly through the town of Homestead, Florida, a suburb south of Miami, Andrew obliterated entire blocks of homes, in many cases leaving only the concrete foundations. Over 25,000 houses were destroyed in Miami-Dade County alone, and nearly 100,000 more were severely damaged. The damage total across the affected regions exceeded $26 billion (1992 USD), and 65 people lost their lives in the hurricane. Wikipedia

The whole bible (Matt 5:17-20)
Remember in the times of Jesus, there was just the old testament.
Hearing involves studying and participating in bible studies – knowing the bible. Many people miss this step as well. However this is not enough.
The foundation is sealed when we actually obey the bible – every word of it (5:17-20). Like Saul many of us obey partially showing all the outer garb of obedience. Examples?
The foundation changes our vision, goals, perspective, heart and actions. It transforms us. Eg of eagle
Kids can build sandcastles- its that easy.
All soils hear and do not receive..Stony ground. Sun?? Prosperity can also destroy us more than suffering and sickness which bring us closer to God.
It is Christ, the word of God, the rock speaking. The ONLY rock.
