4. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Their first album was not a success in the United States but was a HUGE hit in England. It made the top 40 hit list. But in 1979, the release of their second album, Damn the Torpedoes, became a instant hit in the United States. This album had hit songs such as, “Don’t do me like that” and “Refugee” Both of these songs were on the top 15 hit list.
