Hey, Ben, what are we going to learn today?
WE WILL LEARN ABOUT HOW TRANSPORTATION AND
TECHNOLOGY HAVE CHANGED OVER TIME
Invention: something thought of in
the mind and then created in real life
Why: to improve how people live
It All Starts With Scientific Inventions
How We Move from One Place to Another:
A History of Transportation
BACK THEN around the 1800s:
NOW 2015:
Walk Ride Horses Ride in Wagons
A History of Technology:
Important Inventions
Challenge: Name one important invention and how it has
helped us.
It’s Time to….
SHOW ME WHAT YOU KNOW!

Review: Louisiana’s Geography
How Humans Adapt LA’s Geography for their needs and
wants
This is a map of LA
Review: Louisiana’s Geography
Oil is a HUGE
natural resource
in LA
This is a map of
LA’s oil and gas
refineries
We drill holes in
the surface of the
earth to get oil
Challenge: which activity is used to search
for oil in Louisiana?
Important Part of LA’s Geography:
The Port of New Orleans
WHY is this important to
know? This helps the
people of Louisiana to sell
any extra goods to other
states and countries to
make money
New Orleans is an
important center of trade
because it is located on a
large river (the Mississippi)
near the sea (the Gulf).
Challenge: Why is New Orleans an important
center of trade? Why is this important to know?

Natural Resources
Natural resources are things
that come from the earth
Important Natural Resources in LA
WHY are LA’s natural resources important?
2.) LA sells the extra natural resources to other states
and countries to make money
1.) LA’s natural resources are important because
they fulfill our needs and wants
Challenge: Why are LA’s natural resources important?

Supply and Demand:

DEMAND: the number
of people willing to
pay the price a
producer is asking
How Supply and Demand Work
CHALLENGE: WHAT HAPPENS TO THE COST OF GOODS WHEN RESOURCES ARE SCARCE?
WHEN FEW CONSUMERS WANT TO
BUY A GOOD, PRICES ARE LOWERED;
THEY DECREASE
WHY? PRODUCERS LOWER PRICES TO
GET RID OF THE GOOD
WHEN PRICES ARE
LOWERED MORE PEOPLE
BUY A GOOD OR SERVICE
WHY? IT IS CHEAP
29
Supply and Demand
30
Supply and Demand
Review Economics Word of the Day:

prices increase
or go up
CHALLENGE: WHAT
HAPPENS TO THE COST
OF GOODS WHEN
RESOURCES ARE

PERCENTAGE OF VOTES WINS
What Services the U.S. Government
and State Governments Provide:
