HOW TO DOUBLE FARMERS INCOME BY ORGANIC FARMING+SIDE BUSINESS
balbir singh-pune-chem.engg-activist for farmers welfare tel-09766594544 email om.pune@yahoo.in
AFTER HAVING STUDIED THE POVERTY OF FARMERS I HAVE STARTED ORGANIC FARMING TO
PROVE THAT THE MARGINAL FARMERS WITHOUT YEAR ROUND IRRIGATION OWNING 1-3
ACRES IN CAN LIVE A COMFORTABLE LIFE WITHOUT SUICIDES.
1. VISITING THESE FARMS I OBSERVED NO CHILD HAD A FOOTBALL OR A CRICKET BAT, NONE
HAD EVER EATEN A BANANA, A SWEET LIKE A LADOO OR A PEDA, ALL DRINKING UNFILTERED
OPEN WELL WATER, NO MEDICAL AID EVEN FOR A PREGNANCY, NO TRIPLE INJECTION WHICH
IS A MUST IN CITIES, MALNUTRITION CAUSING DIMINISHED MENTAL ABILITY IN
ADULTHOOD, NO INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION NEAR THEIR VILLAGES.THEIR SON
WILL WORK IN A NEAR TOWN OR A FACTORY EVEN AS A WATCHMAN @ RS 5,000/ PER MONTH
2. SO WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER 20 YEARS WHEN THE OLD FARMERS DIE. WHO WILL GROW
FOOD IN INDIA OR THERE WILL BE A FAMINE LIKE 1950 WHEN AMERICAN WHEAT WAS
IMPORTED IN SHIPLOADS
3. SINCE 1990 HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF FARMERS HAVE COMITTED SUICIDES & EVEN
NOW MORE THAN 5 FARMERS ARE DYING DAILY DUE TO INABILITY TO PAY OF THE
MONEYLENDERS LOAN @ 35% OR MORE INTEREST. THE FARMERS UNION LEADERS HAVE
DONE NOTHING FOR THEIR WELFARE .
4.SINCE 75% OF INDIAN FARMERS ARE SMALL FARMERS [1-3 acres] WITHOUT YEAR ROUND
IRRIGATION IT HAS BEEN ADVISED THEY SHOULD GROW –rice--mung-tur-arhar-makki-channa-
makki-groundnut-soy-cotton-sunflower-mustard-til-chauli-lobia-kanda-lasun-mirchi-as per season
BY ORGANIC FARMING by reducing the costs by using own seeds, fertilizer, pesticides
I] STARTING-add 20 gamela,s of dung in each ½ acre plot-plough the field with a tractor @ RS 900/hour-
wait 15 days for the soil to absorb nitrogen from the air-now again smoothen the plots with the tractor –
after a good rain start planting the treated seeds by hand or a seeding machine[@ RS 4,500 from Rajkot]
with a bullock
ii] FREE FERTILIZER—when the seeds have come to 5 inches put in a 200 liter steel drum, 10 liters
cow or buffalow urine +10 kg cow dung+1/2kg jaggery+1/4 kg any powdered daal +1 tablespoon ghee –
ferment for 2 nights then fill with water & put in ½ acre plot with water every week.
iii KEEPING BEE HIVES-in the land to fully pollenate the crop flowers to increase the yield of crops is
costly but a cheaper way is to grow sunflower/mustard/papaya on the borders to attract bees.
iv] PLANTING 1 NEEM TREE-per acre to prevent pests
v] SEED TREATMENT-keep overnight 5 liter urine+5kg cowdung+5kg soil+1/4 kg lime,filter through a
cloth, dip seeds in it to kill the ACTIVATED FUNGAL MYCELLA by drying in the sun then store or plant.
vi] FREE PESTICIDE-ferment for 24 hours in a polythene bucket 10 liter urine+1/2 kg each of
crushed chillies, garlic, tobacco, neem leaves, filter through a cloth the next day & spray -the
unfiltered material can be dried to a powder & sprinkled on plants
vii] FRUIT TREES- fast yielding fruit trees like papaya which attracts bees which can increase crop yields
by better pollenation, planting the papaya from seeds at a distance of 20 feet on the border of all fields &
planting mustard-sunflower between the trees or as a crop to attract bees+ income from fruit
as I will be having a poultry farm I will use its dung with along with the cow dung & cow urine..
viii] avoid growing potatoes as its prices crash every year when ever there is over production or
vegetables unless you are near the market,
viiii] BORE WELL-to be drilled by farmers having money for irrigation & drinking costing RS 40-60,000/.
..x] doing crop rotation & growing some crops together for better yields like cabbage+ tomato
xi] BANANA PLANTATION INVESTMENT-RS 25,000/ for 1500 plants/acre @14/each only where year
round irrigation is available & soil ph of 6-7.5 & planting beans between banana plants gives additional
income. Production is 30 tons bananas/year/acre sell @ RS 7,000/ton=2,00,000 income less
expenses=NET PROFIT of Rs 1,50,000/acre+income from the beans
xi] sowing seeds of above the ground crops only when the moon is rising & the opposite for underground
crops like potatoes-groundnut-carrots [from ancient vedic books on agriculture],
xii] MAGNETIC water it is claimed usage reduces water, fertilizer, up to 20% & increases crop yield up to
20%.which I will be trying as a experiment+prevents blockage of drip irrigation holes.
xiii] MUSIC-soft music played for 5 hours/day can increase yield of crops, milk from cows, hens eggs.
ix] those growing rice should plant only YELLOW colour gainda-zenda flowers on borders to avoid pests
5. FARMERS MUST HAVE A EXTRA SIDE BUSINESS INCOME OF RS 1,000/ DAY BY,
I] KEEPING 3-5 COWS for sale of milk & calves.
II] INVEST 30,000/ to start local[not broilers] variety chicken farm with 14 ft high nets on 2000 sq ft plot
with 2 cocks+3 hens+20 chicks feeding them bajra/jawari-increase to 500 birds in 6 months for sale of
birds/eggs to earn 1,000/day
III] INVEST 50,000/ to buy 3 special goats for milk+who give twin babies twice a year for sale
IV] INVEST 50,000 buy cane juice machine to sell 30 glasses/day+make 100 kg jaggery earn 1000/day
V] INVEST 4 lacs & start a FISH FARM on 2 acres if your land is near a river to earn 6-8 lacs/year
6 CHECK DAMS-must be created with concrete in every village by FORCING the sarpanch to
sanction 5 lakhs up a height of 3-5 feet by the local mason to create 2 crore jobs in india
CREATING A FOREST COVER
i] no farmer should get his ration card unless he plants 30 hardy trees like IMLI-JAMUN-KATAIL-
AAMB-PERU-AMLA etc on vacant lands nearby for which there are there are 4 advantages 1] free
fruit for the locals-2] increased rainfall-3] it raises the groundwater level-4] it attracts bees which
increases the pollenation & crop yields for the farmers in the area.
7. IF THE GREEN TRBUNAL orders all infrastructure road building companies to plant the above
trees 3 on each side of the highways being built =1,000 trees/ km of road to increase the forest
cover in india with millions of extra trees being planted every year giving FREE fruit to the poor.
PLUS THESE TREES WILL ABSORB THE CARBON POLLUTION FROM THE PASSING VEHICLES.
. THE REAL SOLUTION IS START A NEW “KISAN PARTY” FOR FARMERS DEMANDS LIKE,
1] potatoes to be brought under govts procurement scheme as every year prices crash & they go into losses.
2] interest free loan of RS 60,000 for a pump to small farmers[1-3 acres] to grow 3 crops/year & live well
3] 5 lacs to every panchayat to build check dams WILL GIVE EMPLOYMENT TO 2 CRORE RURAL PEOPLE
4] MNREGA scheme not to be reduced for the poorest landless in our country
5] farmers be allowed sale to market without going through the CUT THROAT DALAL offering one third price
