13. Conclusion

‘Steve Jobs’ film had too many conflicts. These conflicts occurred both in the top
management and lower level.
In summary there are two types of conflicts which are `functional conflict’ and ‘dysfunctional
conflict. In fact there are a lot of ‘dysfunctional conflict’ scenes in the movies as he had
countless arguments with his team and Board of the Directors.
The sources of conflicts that contains in this film were incompatible goals, scarce
resources and communication problems.
• Incompatible goals occur when Steve Jobs is more concerned in creating advance
technology for the outside world instead of focusing on company’s profit.
• Scarce resources initially took place at the beginning stage in which Steve Jobs
was not provided with a proper office for his team due to company’s lack of fund.
• Steve’s lack of communication skills with his team project and the Board of the
Director was clearly demonstrated.
In time, Steve had learned and improved his communication skills as he planned to venture
into new projects. Eventually he was appointed as Apple’s Chief Executive Officer, CEO.
In our opinion, win-win situation could be achieved via compromising with others
i.e. to balance self interest and at the same time caring for others.
