Racism
Mankind from the beginning has always felt superior and
looked down upon other creatures. However, the hierarchy that
exists within the people has always been the cause of many
conflicts and wars. Racism has led to the formation of
permanent taboos and hatred, which lead only to destruction and
frustration in society. God created human and mankind and all
were equal there was no one superior to the other however the
humans have created sects, division and are not one anymore.
Each human represents a different sect and culture. Thus, it can
be said that when God made us he made us as a single entity but
humans created divisions, they partitioned themselves and
divided themselves into classes with the most privileged ones
being held on top and being the most powerful and the ones who
are lesser privileged being on the bottom and the weaker ones.
With theses, divisions came immense hatred for each other, for
each other's cultures, color, race, gender, and sects. In short, the
divisions broke the bond that humans shared and in return, they
started hating each other to no extent.
Racism is so ingrained in our society that it seems hard to
eradicate it. Colored people are the main victim of the discourse
of racism. All the colored people are observed spending their
lives in proving themselves and others that they are not an
inferior race. An example from history is the struggle story of
Nelson Mandela (Miles & Brown, 2006). Despite being an
intelligent and extremely wise person he also faced a lot of
racism from the people around him just because of his skin
color. It is a sad thing that people face racism at the hands of
their appearance and their color, something that is not even in
their hands and something that they cannot control no matter
what. Racism is one of the most insensitive and crude forms of
human torture, it does not affect a person physically as much as
it affects a person mentally. The person loses his confidence
and becomes scared of the world and the people around him,
also racism makes one unsure about himself and he forgoes all
his talent and his strengths just for the sake of the racism he
faces based on his appearance and the skin color. Sadly, these
are the preconceived notions of the society that the one who is
white in color is the better one and more superior and the one
who is a bit darker in color in the inferior one and is termed as
ugly by those in power and strength. Therefore it can be said
that sadly, racism is a long lived curse of society. Though the
prosecution of people promoting this idea is not possible but
major steps to fight and eradicate this can be taken (Todorov &
Maxwell, 1990).
Racism is that negative vibe that can harm the lives of the
people to a great extent, it works like a slow poison it might not
harm or affect the person at once. However eventually it goes
on to bring the person to a level where he thinks of finishing his
life and throwing away all the good he has in life, this happens
because it is something that is not in control of the person
facing racism and he ends up blaming himself for all the bad
things happening to him. Racism makes a person a depressed
soul where he thinks about all the bad things and negatives in
his life and forgets about all the positives and the happiness that
he has in his life. All this is because of the constant bickering
and the constant negativity that racism builds in the minds of
the people. Sadly there have been many cases of suicide where
young people have ended their lives because of constant racism
that later translated into immense bullying harming the person
mentally as well as physically. It is sad to even think that
racism causespeople to suffer and get minimal opportunities to
excel because of their skin color, something that is not even in
their control. It creates hatred, rage, and frustration in people
targeted which is leading towards unrest and turmoil in
society. There can be various solutions to this problem; one of
the solutions is to politely make people understand the rights
and respect is deserved by people equally. The color, gender,
and race should be the criteria to bestow upon such rights. Love
and sincerity can make even the worse of the people realize the
wrong they are doing in the life of another person. Therefore
this method can help one built empathy and sensitivity in the
hearts of the people who think that through the skin color they
are more superior.
In the past as well there have been a lot of cases where
racism one and the person lost his life.History is replete with
examples of struggle against the injustice caused in the name of
racism. The most apt example and the most motivational
example can be of the life and story of Nelson Mandela; his
story has a lot of lessons for everyone and is worth learning
from. The reform he brought about can till date can be looked
into to eradicate the problem. He was someone who was bullied
and faced a lot of racism when he was young just based on his
skin color. He, on the other hand, did not let this negativity
affect him or tamper his goals and dreams. Instead, he used that
negativity to become more focused on his mission and at the
end of the day he silenced all his haters and became the most
loved respected and the most powerful person in history. This is
how one can use negativity and transform it into motivation and
change the life for the better so that it becomes an example for
everybody involved and everyone gets a lot of motivation from
the lives of the people, just like Nelson Mandela.
There are several real life examples that I have witnessed
where people were subject to racism; the most relevant example
can be of a close friend of mine who was also my class fellow.
We used to study together. She was a very bright student.
Another group asked for her help in a project to which she
agreed happily. After sometime when the project was over that
group started harassing her on the basis of her color and
ethnicity. It was so hurtful to see that other people also
encouraged and participated in this humiliating treatment. I took
stand for her and reported in the students' protection
department. I was glad to see that swift action was taken. But
unfortunately, as time passed I realized that it was more a
spiritual damage and her self-respect that was hurt the most.
Her psychological health was also compromised in this. Due to
some unforeseen reasons she had to leave her studies and went
away without being in any further contact with me. This had a
very harsh effect on me as well, as I always thought that she
was fine after the action was taken against the people to were
passing racist remarks on her, but eventually, I realized that all
the damage was psychological and it was something that had
impacted her very deeply. Her body language changed, she
became so conscious of her self and the confident friend I knew
was no where instead a scared and a meek girl replaced her who
would be scared of the strangers and individual all the time as
she always thought that everyone would judge her and pass
racist comments one her, based on her skin color and her
appearance. This was really sad I realized how fatal and
disastrous racism can be. A moment can spoil the entire life and
the entire mindset of a person forever.
Racism has been going on since ages and has been passed
on from one generation to the other, it is extremely sad that
despite being so modern and so aware in the present times we
have failed to control and limit racism. If not racism directly we
must do something that can prevent the harm and the negative
implications that it causes on the mindset of the people. This
can be done through giving the medical help to such people,
especially the students. At the school students must have a
counselor with whom they can share everything and all that they
have in mind (Vishwas, 2019). The counselor can guide them
accordingly and can provide them mental help. This will help
the students built-in confidence and get someone to speak to so
that they can remove every negative thing that they have in their
mind as this will be a great way to unwind the soul with all the
negativity that one gets to hear randomly and the racist
comment that can damage the mindset of the people in diverse
ways. Another solution can be that the young generation is more
dependent on electronic devices and social media. This can be
used as a tool to highlight the conflict and change the mind of
the people. The students and the younger ones can use social
media t express their concerns and share their stories on the
Internet. This will help the world to know what they are going
through and how they can be helped in various ways, also their
story will be a great way to reach out to the other people
affected by racism and they can become each others driving
force and a source of motivation. All these things come hand in
hand and one positive aspect of a person can move on to the
next and a chain can be built of true motivation and mental
healing (Lalu, 2013).
In conclusion, one can state that racism is not something
that can be eliminated completely from the system.
Unfortunately, it is not something that even war can end. The
only solution to this is that awareness should be brought among
people. The change in mindset and thinking is the only way to
deal with this phenomenon (Mathews, 2014). The person
himself also needs to realize that his life is not dependant on the
people passing racist remarks on him, the person needs to prove
it to them that he has much more to him than skin color. Only
then he will be able to get to the right track and built a positive
mindset for himself and thins will help him fulfill his dreams
and become a more focused version of himself at the end of the
day. All these things will come together to change the lives of
the people in a very positive way. Hence racism needs to be
stopped and eliminated from the society through both sides, one
who is causing it and the one who is taking it.
