1.1 - What is the NCAA Clearinghouse?
The NCAA Clearinghouse is an essential step in becoming
eligible to play college sports.
If you want to play NCAA college sports and receive a scholarship at the DI or
DII level, you will need to register and be cleared by the NCAA. The Eligibility
Center is the organization within the NCAA that determines the academic
eligibility and amateur status for all NCAA DI and DII athletes.
As a college-bound student-athlete, you are responsible for achieving and
protecting your eligibility – that means planning ahead, taking high school
classes seriously and protecting your amateur status. It can be a difficult first
step, but the ultimate benefits of being an NCAA student-athlete are well worth
the effort.

• Potential student-athletes who are planning to participate in
NCAA collegiate sports after high school
• Athletes that are looking to participate in NCAA Division I
athletics
• Athletes that are looking to participate in NCAA division II
athletics

• Meeting core course requirements specific to NCAA division I
or division II.
• Meeting grade-point averages on a sliding scale when
compared to ACT and SAT test scores for NCAA division I or
meeting grade and test requirements for division II.

1.4 - WhEN SHOULD YOU START?
When to Begin Focusing on NCAA Eligibility?
Student-athletes will need to begin thinking about their athletic
future when they begin ninth grade. This is when student- athletes
can meet with their academic counselors to ensure that they are
taking the correct college-prep courses. Students should also
begin to consider when they will take the SAT/ACT tests.
It is advisable to start taking these test when the student is in the
eleventh grade. DO NOT wait until the student is a senior.
