Top five sources of daily dietary fiber article #3
1. Top Five Sources of Daily Dietary Fiber
FRIDAY,NOVEMBER 25, 2011 @ 00:43
Fiber is primarily found in various fresh foods including fruits, vegetables, nuts, and
whole grains. Fiber promotes various biological processes that occur inside your
body. Many people think that they are getting their daily intake of fiber from the
bread that they eat. Unfortunately, bread is manufactured using white flour, which is
taken out from the wheat. The wheat is devoid of its fibrous bran coating, and also the
essential nutrients. In fact, many “Whole Wheat breads” are produced with white
flour as it is cheaper and produces softer breads. So, bread is certainly not a source of
dietary fiber.
Here are the top 5 sources of daily dietary fiber that should be included in your food:
1) Fruits
Many fruits offer a good amount of fiber including apples, prunes, and raisins. If a
fruit contains more flesh than juice such as an apple, it is a rich source of fiber.
2) Vegetables
Choose crispy vegetables to get lots of dietary fiber such as celery.
The celery offers you very less calories but very high amount of fiber.
3) Beans
Eat beans for getting PLENTY of fiber.
4) Breakfast Cereals
Start your day with a good breakfast such as porridge or cornflakes, and you are
having good amount of fiber. In fact, there are many fibrous options available for
breakfast, provided you ensure that you don‟t add too much sugar!
5) Supplements
If you are not able to get as much fiber as you need, you can get many commercial
supplements from the markets that offer fiber such as Colon cleanses. Fiber is an
important part of your meal and daily dietary fiber ensures that your digestive system
remains in a healthy state.
2. Moreover, fiber also helps you reduce the temptation to eat snacks as you feel more
“full”.
So, eat as much fiber as you can as it will help you keep your digestive system
healthy!

The Potentially Dangerous Complications of Herbal Dieting Products
NOVEMBER 25, 2011
Article by Michael Moore
3. The prior ten to fifteen years has witnessed an explosion of non-prescription dieting
and weight loss products. Suppliers fully grasp the marketing value of using natural
ingredients. That is the reason why you constantly see the use of plant based materials
on the labels because the marketing is successful. There are actually many genuine
and potential problems with this scenario. While most people tend to be more
informed than ever, there are still millions who place a lot of faith once they read,
natural. So people simply read a product has 100 % natural ingredients and they use
it. Not only will there be harmful interactions with common drugs, but the herbal
products often have their own problems. Still, yet another situation concerns the
individual who has a predisposition to react negatively to particular herbs products.
But there‟s far more to consider in this entire scenario with fat loss products. There
are far too many herbal plant products for medical and scientific research to
completely study for health and safety. What commonly happens is a research
investigation will be performed on behalf, and paid for by, the maker that wants to
promote the product. As is clear to see, that presents certain difficulties such as fair
research. It is fairly obvious regarding the anticipated results of that kind of research.
There are many ethical issues involved in that circumstance as is plain to see. But also
it is the consumer who is placed at possible risk due to this type of biased testing.
You will not find very many of these substances that have even been carefully
analyzed by a reliable organization. One exception to this rule is ephedra when used
with caffeine simply because actually offer results for weight reduction. The US Food
and Drug Administration finally blocked ephedra because people became severely ill
and some died from using it. Well, amazingly enough something completely new
made an appearance on shelves, hoodia. There happen to be some studies carried out
on this South African herb product. You ought to know that hoodia can present risky
potential side effects for certain people. Hoodia acts to block a person from feeling
hunger, but that also is true of thirst as well. So this product should be treated with
guardedness if used.
We will share a horrible example of what can go awry with herbal ingredients.
Seventy people who took an herbal diet product in Belgium suffered total kidney
failure. Fifty more people experienced varying degrees of kidney problems. Also,
there was clearly proof of lesions that were cancerous in a number of the kidneys
which were taken out of those people. After examination, it was learned that the
4. manufacturer made a mistake during the process and used the wrong active herbal
ingredient.
History is rich in reports about positive uses for herbs to treat many illnesses. The
ideal approach is to really become an informed consumer prior to making use of such
ingredients. The intelligent and safe approach is to perform overwhelming
investigation if you want to try any type of herbal product for losing weight.

In US, is a Kosher food really Kosher? or are we just looking the other way?
NOVEMBER 25, 2011
Question by Farooq: In US, is a Kosher food really Kosher? or are we just
looking the other way?
Every restaurant (fast food or Dine-in) including but not limited to Subway,
McDonald‟s, Burger King, Gardunos, Olive Garden, TGI-Fridays… all use the same
slicers, ovens, and sam oil to prepare all foods.
so a kosher meat, lets say beef, is cooked in the same oil that is previously used to
cook pork …which makes the beef non-kosher too. Is there a law that prevents that
from happening or should there be a law against this?
I am not talking about the food being blessed by a Rabii or a Mula…
Let me try to explain it a little bit more…
Jews & Muslims are not suppose to eat pork, pork products, or pork contaminated
products, but they can eat beef, veal, or chicken. Lets say an already „blessed‟ beef is
cooked in the same oil with pork, that will CONTAMINATE the beef with pork
ingredients (trust me, I am not splitting hair) It is the fact. Not all Muslims or Jews
abide by that law, but most do.
And finally, for those people who think that it is foolish… it is not. its a belief system
that is in the mind of billions of people and please be respectfull when answering my
question.
Thank You

Unique Gift Ideas – Food Gifts That Offer Flavor And Help A Low Sodium Diet
NOVEMBER 18, 2011
Article by Debbie Benson
A food gift is nice to give and nice to receive. Many food gifts are foods and brands
only seen around holidays or special occasions, and many have special memories and
traditions associated with them. Unfortunately, many of these food gifts are very high
in sodium. There are definite challenges when trying to give a food gift to someone on
a low sodium diet. Whether this diet is from health issues, or perhaps the person is
choosing to eat healthier.
What are some gift ideas especially food gifts for these folks on a low sodium diet?
First, realize that folks on a low sodium diet must eat at home most of the time. No
going out to restaurants or eating fast food, at least not very often. No traditional
snacks like cheese and crackers, sausages or hams, as they are high in sodium. This
eliminates many of the more traditional food gift baskets and food gifts. Since these
folks do eat at home they could use gifts that add flavor as they are always looking for
ways to have more flavorful food. Here are some unique gift ideas.
Low Sodium Food Gift Ideas:
* Extra virgin olive oil: A bottle or a collection of 2 or 3 different extra virgin olive
oils. These could be from the US perhaps California, or countries like Italy, Greece,
6. Spain, etc. Olive oils are flavorful, heart healthy, and every country or state tastes
different.
* Nut oils are very unique food gifts: walnut oil, almond oil, hazelnut oil, avocado oil,
macadamia nut oil, etc. Nut oils add a lot of flavor and you don‟t need much.
* Fresh nuts: Walnuts, almonds, pecans, etc., in the shell (this will also give them
something to do and you could include a nutcracker) or out of the shell. Make sure
they are unsalted. Or choose an assortment of unsalted shelled nuts.
* Vinegars: There are so many kinds. Choose a bottle or several bottles of herb
vinegars like tarragon vinegar, or wine vinegars such as sherry vinegar, red wine
vinegar, white wine vinegar, champagne vinegar, and of course, there is a huge range
of balsamic vinegars.
* Dried mushrooms: There are many varieties with each having a different flavor such
as: porcini, shitake, morels, chantarelles, portabellas, crimini, oyster, wood ear, cloud
ear, champignon, and many more. These can be used all year, not just when
mushrooms are in season.
* Wood chips: There are so many kinds such as hickory, mesquite, apple, citrus, etc.
These add a lot of flavor when added to a barbecue, smoker or grill.
* Citrus trees: A lemon tree would be a very unique gift, as lemons are used a lot on a
low sodium diet. Also look for varieties of, lime, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, etc.
There are also dwarf citrus trees for small spaces.
* Herb gardens: An indoor herb garden would be a very unique gift idea. Or select
herb plants or seeds for an outdoor herb garden. Even a book about herbs or growing
herb gardens. This could also be a vegetable garden.
* Salt-free seasonings are especially important to anyone on a low sodium diet.
Seasonings are the key to a flavorful low sodium diet. The more variety the better.
If possible, get a variety or an assortment of the food gift so there is something for
every taste. This improves your chances of the gift being used and enjoyed.
Everyone‟s taste buds are different and taste buds do change.
7. Gift ideas like these, help folks on a low sodium diet learn different ways to cook and
experience new foods and new flavors. Choosing a food gift which helps achieve
more flavorful food and makes cooking and eating a low sodium diet, easier and more
enjoyable is a winner. Hopefully, you now have many unique, low sodium food gift
ideas.
