2. RESILIENT ARCHITECTURE
Architecture of Varanasi comprises
mainly of Hindu temples and also some
Mughal architecture.
Varanasi is a city of temples
The architecture of the Varanasi region
is dependant on its geography.
ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES
•White marble and red sandstone was favored.
•Semi-precious gemstones were popular (jade,
LANDSCAPE crystal, etc.)
GARDENING • Used arches sparingly.
• Symmetry and balance stressed.
• Used octagons a lot.
•Landscape gardening.

4. DESIGN CONCEPT
The distinctiveness of its iconic buildings and attractions – the Space Needle, Key
Arena, – is fundamental to the architectural character of the campus
There is also great cohesion across the campus with a network of landscaped
plazas and open spaces.
These stand out as elements of uniqueness.
These design guidelines encourage design excellence in architectural concepts and
execution of both foreground and background buildings.
Office: B 66 SECTOR 63,
NOIDA (UP)-201301
5. CAMPUS ENTRIES
Arrange and design buildings, open spaces and site elements to create welcoming entries to
SKIMS . NEIGHBORHOOD CONNECTIONS
Link the campus and the surrounding
neighborhood with visual and physical.

13. CONCEPT :- SUSTAINABLE SITE PLANNING
NORTH – SOUTH ORIENTATION.
COURTYARD CONCEPT
Acts as a micro climate generator and thereby reduces energy consumption.
A Landscape element
LANDSCAPE AREAS MAXIMISED
The main concern is the physical Articulation of space, the solids and voids, the negative and the
positive. In addition, we try to include the effects of light, surface, shape and form.
OPTIMISED BUILDING DEPTH
To harvest maximum daylight.
SERVICE CORES ON HOT EAST – WEST ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Minimize surface area-to-volume ratio. HIGH LEVELS OF INSULATION
EFFICIENT HEATING OF AIR & WATER
Office: B 66 SECTOR 63,
NOIDA (UP)-201301
14. ECO FRIENDLY CRITERION: A GREEN BUILDING CONCEPT
A. Use of eco friendly products :
B. Less volatile organic compounds
C. Waterless urinals: twin flow toilets
D. CFC ( chloro fluoro carbon) free HVAC
equipments: uses refrigerants which have
low ozone depletion potential
E. Reflective surface glass
F. Human sensors to regulate cooling and
heating to the optimum use.
G. Provision of insulated roof tops and terrace
gardens

15. GREEN BUILDING CONCEPT :
1. All the buildings are around the
central landscaped courts which
creates its own microclimate and
makes the building energy efficient.
2. Use of reflective façade which
reduces the heat transfer and in turn
reduces the power load.
3. Recycled water used for watering of
landscaped courts
4. Solar panels to be used widely in all
the buildings (not considered in the
present scope of construction due to
cost constraint)
5. Provision of rain water harvesting to
preserve the natural resources.

installation of bio metric based access control
system.
All doors to the sensitive area like
laboratories, scientists’ rooms,
Administrators’ room etc. shall have
biometric access control.
Entrance Gates shall have boom barrier
controlled by access control for incoming and
outgoing vehicles.
The system will be integrated and controlled
from central location for ease of maintenance
and functionality.
NB : However, The above is not in the scope
of construction of Phase II ‘A’ due to cost
constraint
Office: B 66 SECTOR 63,

Lights and electrical distribution monitoring
shall be done centrally using IBMS to save
the power energy and recurring expenditure.
Elevators installed inside the premises shall
be continuously monitored.
The alarms from various systems installed in
laboratories like gas supply, fire control,
ventilation control etc. shall be monitored for
safety control by IBMS
Automation of all fire control systems like
pumps etc. to be controlled by central
location.

44. SITE FURNISHINGS
SEATING AND BENCHES
Comfort is important to B.H.U.campus visitors, and a variety of places to sit should be offered
throughout the campus. Where part of the signature streets or open spaces, seating should be
an element of continuity on campus, with a common attitude toward color, and aiming toward
consistency over time.
Freestanding benches have
been acquired over the
years; matching the colors
would help them serve as
elements of continuity.
STADIA IN MID OF CAMPUS
Benches enhance
design concepts,
emphasizing
ground lines or
placed as objects
in a space.
Integrating benches into
landscape and building edge
conditions is encouraged.
Office: B 66 SECTOR 63,
NOIDA (UP)-201301
45. CONCLUSION
The drive to “go green” is undoubtedly welcome as the problems of water shortage,
energy crisis and climate change are seemingly here to stay. Also the green
concept has to be developed for local context so that they can be still be applied
within the local and financial needs.
