APNIC and 12 ISPs in Myanmar participated in setting up the country's first internet exchange, MMIX, which went live on September 5th, 2017. MMIX aimed to be neutral, industry owned, and non-profit. It signed MOUs with 10 ISPs in September 2017. While it has helped increase connectivity, MMIX still faces challenges including a lack of awareness, competition from IP transit providers, and uncertainty around its legal status. It is working to address these issues and grow internet infrastructure in Myanmar.
