2. Titling The name of the film is orange behind a black background. This contrast in the titles and the background suggests to the viewer a struggle between good and evil with the story.
3. Camera movement Panning shots of a suburban area. Which suggests a normality as many people who live in the suburbs are seen to be average people. You see big suburban houses and trees that surround the houses. This shows the viewer that the people maybe well off. It creates an affect of being in a moving car. This puts the viewer in the story and brings a closer relationship between the viewer and the film.
4. Framing shot There is a close up of a car that has been hit by a heavy object through the back window. This may unnerve the audience as it brings ambiguity to the story by introducing violence. A mid shot of two young boys creeping into a house emphasises the innocence in the story. Close up of a vinyl playing. Shows that in this hows there is some normality and the people are normal people who enjoy listening to music. Another close up of a bloody knife, blood splatter on the walls and a rifle on a table. This introduction of heavy violent imagery brings allot of ambiguity to the story and also shows that there will be heavy violence in the film.
5. Mise en scene It is set in a suburban area. Which tells the viewers that the characters in the story are average people. It is all natural light, as it is daylight and the sun is shining down. This suggests that the incident occured at night. The only characters are two mall boys coming into a house that looks like a murder crime scene. The remains of the violent objects may suggest that something sinister has occurred.
6. Editing directions The editing is very fast paced which brings ambiguity to the story as you are unaware of the link between the characters. There are many jump cuts as you move from one scene to another with no immediate link to one another. This brings ambiguity to the story. The editing is made faster after every shot, there are flashes of lights that seem to confuse the viewer.
7. Actors positioning The only actors in the scene are two boys that are creeping into a house. This tells the viewer that something horrific has taken place in the house.
8. narrative It is unclear who the villain or hero is. There are no principle characters in the story so far. The story seems to be told backwards as the murder has already occurred but you are unaware of the details. The affect brings ambiguity and leaves the viewer in suspense. Questions you are left with Why were these people killed? Who killed them? Was there a motive for their murders? Who are the two boys at the begining?
