The decades that followed, however, are ones which would rarely be described as normal in comparison to what came before or after. After World War I ended and through the 1920s, a struggle ensued within the American nation regarding how best to define the nation’s essential character, as groups like the revived Ku Klux Klan fought a rearguard action to define nationhood solely in terms of white skin and Protestant religion against secularists, Catholics, flappers, “New Negroes,” and others who challenged the traditional order. Immediately thereafter, the New Deal implemented in response to the Great Depression revolutionized the role of the federal government in lives of the American people, in ways that many Americans believed violated the basic tenets of the Constitution—and others believed were not radical enough. Taken together, the decades from 1920 to 1940 may have transformed the American nation more than any other comparable time period.

When the First World War began, African-American leaders pressed the government to provide black men the right to go to combat to prove their devotion to their country. Hoping that their service would lay a stake on citizenship that the nation would have no choice but to honor, the “New Negro” of the 1920s adopted a more militant stance toward civil rights. The civil rights struggle envisioned at the time, however, made few concrete gains. Discrimination and disenfranchisement persisted.
African-American leaders responded to the Second World War much as they had to the First, offering their services while expecting recognition in return. They intended to fight a “Double-V Campaign” against fascism abroad and racism at home. They helped to kill fascism abroad; racist policies at home survived, but only for a time. Less than a decade after the war ended, the Brown case struck down the principle of “separate but equal” in schools. A grass-roots movement emerged to challenge discrimination elsewhere. By 1965, nonviolent means had murdered Jim Crow. Yet, the 60s were nothing if not a violent decade, marred by war, riots, and assassinations. By the end of the decade, Americans were as divided in some ways as they had ever been, and hopes for integration into a single American nation largely gave way to an emphasis on the unique needs and interests of different groups within the nation.

What are Secondary Sources?
Secondary sources are accounts of historical events written after the event took place and by individuals who did not personally witness them.
They are based on primary sources and backed up by other secondary sources.
Often, the term “secondary source” is used interchangeably with the terms “academic source” or “scholarly source.”
You should usually interpret instructions that ask for secondary sources as asking you for a peer reviewed journal article or book. Where do I find Secondary Sources?
Secondary sources are the product of the analyses of primary sources, with context provided by secondary sources.
They are generally written by professional historians or students to build on the work of other historians.
The best place to find secondary sources for your work is the Ashford University Library. What separates a Secondary Source from a Primary Source?
Secondary sources and memoirs and oral history interviews are all created after a historical event happened.
The important difference is that secondary sources are not first-hand accounts, like memoirs or oral history interviews. What about textbooks and encyclopedias? Are they Secondary Sources? Textbooks, encyclopedias and other reference works, and most documentaries and educational websites are not secondary sources because they are based only on secondary sources. They are called tertiary sources.
Although they provide some good general information that can help students begin the research process, they are generally not acceptable for use in university-level work.

What are Primary Sources?
Primary sources are documents or artifacts created during a historical event or by someone who personally witnessed a historical event.
Primary sources can take many forms, including: o First-hand accounts—oral histories, memoirs, diaries, letters, interviews, etc. o Media accounts—newspaper or television report o Political or legal documents—Congressional Records, Presidential Papers, Court rulings, Speeches, census or tax records o Artistic works—Photographs, paintings, sculptures, films o Artifacts—clothing, buildings, pottery
All primary sources, except first-hand accounts, must have been created at the time of the historical event that you are researching.
First-hand accounts must be an explanation of the historical event that you’re researching by someone who personally witnessed the event. Where Can I find Primary Sources? There are many places to find primary sources online, like websites for archives and museums.

On May 23, 1934, Mihiko Shimizu persuaded the leading association of Japanese
immigrants in Los Angeles to establish a celebration in honor of their American-
born children. Such a Nisei, or second-generation, festival, he asserted, was needed
to reenergize the small businesses of Little Tokyo, which no longer enjoyed the rapid
growth and prosperity they had in the 191 Os and 1920s.1 Shimizu saw the sluggish
market for his dry goods as an indication of a long-term trend that would prove
more devastating to Japanese retailing than the current depression.

Less than a decade after the war ended, the Brown case struck down the principle of “separate but equal” in schools. A grass-roots movement emerged to challenge discrimination elsewhere. By 1965, nonviolent means had murdered Jim Crow. Yet, the1960s were nothing if not a violent decade, marred by war, riots, and assassinations. By the end of the decade, Americans were as divided in some ways as they had ever been, and hopes for integration into a single American nation largely gave way to an emphasis on the unique needs and interests of different groups within the nation.

In line with the national policy to promote paternal involvement in parenting, two-thirds of Swedish preschoolers with non-cohabiting parents live in two homes. Internationally, there has been a debate regarding the benefits or risks with joint physical custody for infants and toddlers. The aim of this qualitative study was to explore the reasons given by divorced parents for sharing joint physical custody of children 0-4years of age. Interviews were conducted with 46 parents (18 fathers and 28 mothers) and analyzed using systematic text condensation. Two themes emerged in response to the research question. What are Secondary Sources?
Secondary sources are accounts of historical events written after the event took place and by individuals who did not personally witness them.
They are based on primary sources and backed up by other secondary sources.
Often, the term “secondary source” is used interchangeably with the terms “academic source” or “scholarly source.”
You should usually interpret instructions that ask for secondary sources as asking you for a peer reviewed journal article or book. Where do I find Secondary Sources?
Secondary sources are the product of the analyses of primary sources, with context provided by secondary sources.
They are generally written by professional historians or students to build on the work of other historians.
The best place to find secondary sources for your work is the Ashford University Library. What separates a Secondary Source from a Primary Source?
Secondary sources and memoirs and oral history interviews are all created after a historical event happened.
The important difference is that secondary sources are not first-hand accounts, like memoirs or oral history interviews. What about textbooks and encyclopedias? Are they Secondary Sources? Textbooks, encyclopedias and other reference works, and most documentaries and educational websites are not secondary sources because they are based only on secondary sources. They are called tertiary sources.
Although they provide some good general information that can help students begin the research process, they are generally not acceptable for use in university-level work.
Primary Sources
What are Primary Sources?
Primary sources are documents or artifacts created during a historical event or by someone who personally witnessed a historical event.
Primary sources can take many forms, including: o First-hand accounts—oral histories, memoirs, diaries, letters, interviews, etc. o Media accounts—newspaper or television report o Political or legal documents—Congressional Records, Presidential Papers, Court rulings, Speeches, census or tax records o Artistic works—Photographs, paintings, sculptures, films o Artifacts—clothing, buildings, pottery
All primary sources, except first-hand accounts, must have been created at the time of the historical event that you are researching.
First-hand accounts must be an explanation of the historical event that you’re researching by someone who personally witnessed the event. Where Can I find Primary Sources? There are many places to find primary sources online, like websites for archives and museums.

Recently, African Americans have created movements such as "Black Lives Matter" to counteract these other groups. Many tie slave history to the development of segregation and racism that has spread throughout our country. A

because of what their ancestors had to endure just to survive in this country. This distrust has developed towards different groups, agencies, and organizations. For those who are not affected, trying to understand what it means to be an African American in the United States showcases the need for this history to be taught in all schools and to every American.
Your final forum is to prepare a speech that would explain to all of America why African American History from after Reconstruction to the present should be taught. Explain why every American should know African American history. You will be expected to use specific facts, events and people that you have learned from this course. These facts, events, and people must come from your required work this term and from research in the library or from the course bibliography. Aca Entre Nos is a classic piece of music by one of the most recognizable and prominent Mexican artists that is Vicente Fernandez. The song Aca Entre Nos in this case is performed live by Fernandez himself and his group. He does not play any instruments but his crew does. His major singing style is that of the mariachi. This is despite him not playing an instrument. However, his vocals and style blends in with the various mariachi artists in his crew making it a soothing tune and song o the ears of many.
The breath control as used by Fernandez in his live performance of the song is effective, tactful and beneficial to the rendition of the song. Fernandez takes deep breaths between various lines of the song in order to stress or rather produce certain tunes and voices necessary for capturing the mood of the audience and the theme of the song in general. Chest voice techniques have also been applied in a bid to provide an array of vocal sounds during the performance. The lyrics of the song focus on the theme of love stressing how Vicente Fernandez still loves his lover despite telling his friends that he does not anymore. It is a tender and passionate song which tends to show love and affection.
The major message the song possesses is the need for love and the guilt and loneliness one feels after losing a lover or rather ending a relationship. Dr Orner and Class, for this week’s discussion topic I chose “Transactional Analysis” because I’ve had numerous experiences from the military that reminded me of the transactional analysis modes. According to Dr. Eric Berne, transactional analysis is the idea that a person’s behavior, actions, and social relationships are a reflection of how they interact with others. Transactional analysis operates around three modes, parent mode, child mode, and adult mode which describe the overall interaction between two people. The parent mode displays authority, highly experienced, knowledgeable, and encouraging attitude. The child mode represents a young inexperience, misguided, uncontrollable person who exhibits immature behavior when confronted or challenged by others. The adult mode displays a reasonable mature reaction to favorable and non-favorable interaction with others.
Many years ago when I was in the Army I had several professional encounters with younger soldiers under me that reminded me of the parent to child communication relationship. There were many past encounters where my younger subordinates took on the character of a child when interacting with me and other leaders about work related issues. I remember one specific occasion in Germany, were I had a couple of new soldiers in my section that lacked initiative, motivation, and knowledge of simple task. These particular soldiers quickly became my special project because they would always develop an “I can’t do it” attitude when it came to physical work which meant someone else had to pull their load. I remember a lot of our initial conversations resembled a parent to child relation as I pushed them to except their duties and responsibilities as soldiers and team member. At that time in my life I truly felt like I was finishing raising other people’s children as they entered the Army as young adults. Overall each situation turned out well over time and our professional relationships developed into adult to adult interactions as they learned and became more mature.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
How to Break the cycle of negative Thoughts
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
