SFA Safety Websites
In the deep piney woods of east Texas, there stands a school that has been around since the early
nineteenth century, Stephen F. Austin State University. For all students, safety should be one of their
most important priorities when picking a university or college. Stephen F. Austin State University,
or SFASU, luckily has a well–organized and well informed website that offers all of its students
important tips and procedures on what to do in case of an emergency. Though only a few handful of
students know about the website because is not well publicized. This results in a large amount of
students not knowing that there is a website that provides them with vital information on everything
they need do to remain safe in the case of an emergency. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are people who seek destruction and to harm students as much as possible. Therefore, schools
take these precautions to assure that students know what to do when in a time of crisis. Information
like this should be much more easily accessible. Overall the SFASU campus safety policies and
website are viable for the student on campus and off campus; however, it could be more publicized,
that way all students know what to do and what not to do in the case of an emergency. Colleges and
universities could easily do this by implementing mandatory safety and training courses to ensure
the safety of their students while they are attending their school. This is extremely important so that
way students feel safe and can casually recommend SFASU as a safe and educated school for to
anyone who ask, showing that there is safety for all

The Father Of Texas By Stephen F. Austin Essay
Every Texan knows the legends of Stephen F. Austin that lead him to become the "Father of Texas."
Few Texas would try to say anyone else deserves this honor even though Texas is not short of larger
than life legends. Such names include Lorenzo Zavala, Thomas Rusk, Juan Seguin, William Travis,
James Bowie, and Sam Houston. Even "In his eulogy for Austin, Houston called him, "The Father
of Texas"" (Areas of Interest). But despite this many would argue that Houston deserves the title.
To understand how became a Texas Hero we must first explore the struggles that lead him to Texas
and eventually. Houston's early years where less than promising despite being named after his
famous father. Houston disliked working on the family farm and going to school. When given the
chance to leave the hard work of the farm and work as a clerk Houston choose to runaway. When he
ran away meet with and was accepted into the Cherokee tribe not far from his family's farm. Here he
found comfort and acceptance in the tribe. Years later he returned to the white settlement becoming
a teacher and then joining the Tennessee Militia. Later he would serve in the United States House of
Representatives. In 1829 Houston married Eliza Allen of Tennessee, however the marriage was
short lived. After Houston's failed marriage he resigned his office and headed west out of Tennessee
where he rejoined living with the Cherokee. However, this time he returned depressed and took to
drinking heavenly.

Moses began his journey to establish the territories that belong to Mexico and the part that belonged
to the United States. Wanting to make this area his colony, he had to defend himself from the British
and French. In 1798, Moses led his family and followers into Tennessee creating a 3 month journey.
Being attacked by Indians and the French, Moses' continued defending his colony. Along with John
Smith and James Wilkinson, the American Economy started to effect Moses' plan. At this time,
Moses now wanted Texas even knowing it was Spanish territory. Years later during this journey,
Moses contracted malaria, which eventually killed him. "Tell dear Stephen that it is his dying
father's last request to prosecute the enterprise that he had commenced", Moses told his wife Mary
(Brands 24–25). For many years before this, the territory of Texas was explored by many Spanish
conquistadors and rebels including Cabeza de Vaca, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, La Salle,
Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Jose Bernardo Gutierrez de Lara, and many more along with Americans.
"During the eighteenth and earl nineteenth centuries, while the Spanish were approaching Texas

either the Europeans or the Americans, entered Texas from the north" (Brands 44). This group was

Stephen f. Austin looked around for a new business opportunity, eventually deciding to go to New

american families into texas however at that time texas was still a part of mexico so his father moses
had to go to mexico to get permission to emigrate the first anglo american families into texas but in
1821 soon after moses stephen's father returned when Stephen was 27 Moses became very ill and

The Influence Of Abraham Lincoln On The Mexican American War
Abraham Lincoln opposed the Mexican American War, since he argued it was unnecessary and
unconstitutional. He questioned the U.S. president's honesty and even accuses the president's
justification to be "from beginning to end, the sheerest deception." Furthermore, he criticizes the
president for supporting the war with arguments and not facts. He also bashes on the president's
mentality on a personal level. Moreover, Abraham Lincoln argues that President Polk is lying about
the initial cause of the war in which the casualties took place. 2) What evidence does Lincoln use to
support his anti–war argument? First and foremost, Lincoln is skeptical about Mexicans shedding
American blood on American soil. He examined the president's war ... Show more content on

Thesis (What is the author's main argument in the article). Gregg Cantrell informs the reader that
Stephen F. Austin is a very complex individual who is taken out of context. Stephen F. Austin is a
human being who is misunderstood by many and is seen as a racist, invader of land, and a white
supremacist, since he was a proponent of the Manifest Destiny. Furthermore, he believed that his
mission was to spread the American ways such as enterprise and intelligence. People mistook his
declarations and blew them out of proportion. For this reason, he was also seem as pro–American
chauvinism when he made a negative statement about the Catholic Church. However, when a person
views Stephen F. Austin whole story, it is very different from the one they acclimated to. Austin,
served as a political and cultural mediator between Anglo Texans and Mexicans. Furthermore, he
was a person who wanted personal success, but also had a strong sense of public responsibility. 2)
Evidence (What evidence does the author use to support the thesis of the article.) Stephen F. Austin's
title was empresario, which means entrepreneur, a person who has been granted to recruit settlers,
issued land titles, enforce the laws and take responsibility for new settlers. Austin learned to speak
fluent Spanish, conducted business in Spanish, and was personally acquainted with a host of major
Mexican leaders.

received a grant of land in Texas for purposes of colonization. His father Moses Austin fell ill and
died in 1821: His final wish was that Stephen complete his settlement project. (Minister)
Austin's planned settlement of Texas hit many snags between 1821 and 1830, not least of which was
the fact that Mexico achieved independence in 1821, meaning he had to re–negotiate his father's

Effects Of Texas Rebellion
Texas, initially Mexican territory, would lose this identity as diversity began to advance across the
state. Texas became full of diversity prior to the rebellion. Texas at the time was at its most diverse
(Unit 4, The Peoples of Mexican Texas). There were visible cultural differences and practices.
However, the differences were hardly significant enough to propel Texas into a rebellion. The
moment the Anglos set foot in to Texas, the cultural differences were noticeable to both sides, but it
was not enough to deter either side from attempting to coexist (Unit 4, The Peoples of Mexican
Texas). The Texas rebellion began to formulate at a time where the Anglo population began to peak.

Political conflict, was a key component in multiple uprisings during the time. Economic
motivations, grew to a point where it never reached prior to the Jacksonian era. Social changes,
divided a significant amount of people within Texas itself. Cultural differences were notable and
existed, but they took on a smaller role compared to politics, economics, and social changes. While
cultural differences were present, they were not nearly enough to spark an entire rebellion. The
cultural differences made it difficult to easily assimilate, but hardly impossible. The inability to
quickly adjust to preceding expected cultural norms was a very unlikely reason for the rebellion.
Weber, initially presents a very valid argument of the cultural differences between Anglo Texans and
Mexican Texans. However, he makes it clear in his essay that despite the cultural differences, the
main fight was between the Mexican Texan and the centralist Mexican government (MPTH, 139).
There is more than enough evidence to support that the Texas rebellion would occur inevitably, as
the discontent with the Mexican leadership rose. Consequently, it appeared that both cultures were
able to coexist exceptionally. It is also leaves a curious question on whether culture assimilation,
rather than cultural differences lead to the Texas

Stephen F. Austin Is Not High On The Crime Essay
Stephen F. Austin is a beautiful school surrounded by tall pine trees and lakes. With the small
population of students that attend this university compared to, for example, the University of Texas,
most students and parents would not suspect that many crimes occur on campus. Stephen F. Austin
is not high on the crime list compared to other universities, but it is not completely sound either.
Last year, around the spring semester, there were several rumored cases of young women being
beaten by an unidentified male. Due to these rumors many students did not feel safe walking around
campus, especially at night. In the Crime Log for Stephen F. Austin there were a reported of twenty–
four burglaries from 2013–2015, and four reported forcible assaults with three of them occurring in
on campus housing. This semester a fraternity on campus, Alpha Tau Omega, was accused of
sexually assaulting a student during one of their events. The young women claimed to have been
drugged and then sexually assaulted by several different men. Grand jurors' chose not to indict
anyone; therefore, the case was dropped.
There should be more campus security/police posts around campus to lower the number of attacks,
robberies, thefts and to help make students feel more secure on campus. Call boxes and messaging
systems are pointless, implementing apps like LiveSafe and TapShield will help students have an
"on–the–go" safety measure. Although Stephen F. Austin does have a safety app most students are

Essay on Cultural Difference between Mexicans and Americans
Cultural Difference between Mexicans and Americans
While Texas leader Stephen Austin initially had no contempt toward Mexicans, the Anglo–
American citizens in the area did. The American Texans of the 1800's defined Mexicans as "a race
alien to everything that Americans held dear" (De Leon 4). This sentiment would serve as the
primary catalyst to the Texas secession from Mexico. When Austin began colonizing the area, he
envisioned a place in which Anglo–Americans and Tejanos, Mexicans living in Texas, could live
together. Eventually, though, the public opinions of North American settlers in the territory and in
Washington would make him realize that the goal of unity between the two groups was impossible.

(Del Castillo 4) Americans believed they "were the 'pioneers of the continent,' who would inevitably
spread the benefits of democracy and freedom to the lesser peoples inhabiting the region"(Del
Castillo 4).
The prevailing attitude of white supremacy was the justification Americans used to "rescue the
wilderness from backwardness, indolence, and disorder"(De Leon 65). Mexico in its earliest days
was primarily Indian, but the infusion of both Spanish and black blood made it harder to define
Mexicans. White Anglo–Americans believed "their contrast to 'white' and salient kindred to 'black'
and 'red' made Mexicans subject to treatment commensurate with the odious connotations whites
attached to colors, races, and cultures dissimilar to their own" (De Leon 6).
Both Americans and Mexicans laid bricks creating cultural differences. America prided itself on
being a nation comprised of people working for a better future. Mexicans were noted as focusing on
the pleasures of life and ignoring their responsibilities. David Woodman, a promoter for a New York
and Boston land company, is quoted in De Leon's They Called Them Greasers, saying "Mexicans
habitually succumbed to indolence and ease and indulge themselves in smoking, music, dancing,
horse–racing, and other sports" (7). Many Americans who visited Mexico were appalled

Revolution. This battle saw a lot of heroes and also coined one of the most famous sayings in the
state of Texas, "Remember the Alamo"! However, before we can get to all the guts and glory we

This is a point where Mexico only had 3,500 native Mexicans settled in Texas; so in 1821, the
Spanish government granted permission to Austin to settle 300 families in Texas. Austin's luck was
about to turn around for him with this deal. On the other hand, he would not see his vision come to
fruition, as he would perish on a return trip from Mexico City after being robbed. Before his
untimely passing, his son Stephen F. Austin promised his father he would carry out the task and see
it until the end.
The year is now 1824 and a young Stephen F. Austin has attracted 272 colonists to Texas at this
point; in addition to that he was also able to persuade the newly independent Mexican government
to give empresarios (or land agents) 67,000 acres of land for every 200 families brought to Texas.
That's approximately 335 acres a family which is unheard of. Mexico did agree to the term with two
conditions pertaining to land ownership; first the settlers had to become Mexican citizens and
secondly they had to covert to Roman Catholicism. Converting to Roman Catholicism proved to be
a "Puritan Problem", however by 1830 there were 16,000 Americans in Texas. With these numbers
the American formed a 4–to–1 majority in the northern section of Coahuila y Tejas, however overall
Hispanic heritage formed a majority in state as a whole.

The Revolutionary Scheme Of The Texas
The Texas revolution has fascinated Americans for more than a century now, from the epic martyrs
of the Alamo to the unexpected victory of San Jacinto. Lost in all the glory and pain are some
forgotten actors like the New Orleans Greys volunteers or the land speculators. Indeed, the
''Crescent City'' always seems to be left out of classical interpretation of the revolutionary scheme of
the Texas. What was the role of New Orleans? By looking at newspapers published between 1836
and 1839, the city implication would be put into perspective, using Texan battles description,
drafting lists and land sales ads, to provide insight on the military implications and commercial ties.

The recruitment in New Orleans could be dated back to the beginning of the conflict in 1835.
Indeed, in October of that year, the first volunteers were drafted during a meeting at the Bank's
Arcade building. A lot of the young men in the attendance were to enroll themselves on that night
and the New Orleans Greys volunteers regiment was founded. Their involvement into the Texas
revolution would be essential and decisive but, strangely, forgotten by many. At the time, the
Mexican government openly accused the American government of not doing enough to stop the
flow of armed volunteers, who crossed the border to join the Rebels. In fact, while the United States
didn't implicitly supported the revolution, their duplicity and unwillingness to fix the problem
indirectly helped the war effort. During the month of October 1835, the newly formed New Orleans
Grey regiment took the road to Nacogdoches, entered Texas by the Sabine river and reached San

Only A Few Times In The Course Of Human History Has A Single
Only a few times in the course of human history has a single man been able to shape the destiny of
millions. Even fewer have been able to change the fate and lives of millions for the better. Stephen
F. Austin was one of those select few. Stephen F. Austin was able to create a country out of nothing
but the wild untamed west. That country would ultimately become the 28th state of the Union and

Austin did, as he handled most everything. When disputes between Mexican officials and the
settlers arose, Austin made compromises. When Indian attacks threatened the settlers, Austin
commanded a militia to defend them. However, despite Austin's best efforts in attempting to keep
the peace, events transpired that would send Texas to war.
For years Austin had attempted to keep the peace by convincing the citizens to be good Mexican
citizens, hushing up criticism of the often corrupt and incompetent Mexican government and even
helping the Mexicans in putting down an insurrection. Austin had used these as a show of good faith
so that he could obtain concessions from the Mexican Congress. By 1832 though with more than
8,000 American immigrants in Texas, Austin's sometimes cautious leadership was not working. The
passage of The Law of April 6, 1830 had prohibited furture immigrants from America from coming
to Texas. This law was passed in large part due to the fact that the Americans far outnumbered the
Mexican population in Texas. This coupled with the fact that the United States continually
attempted to buy Texas led to increasing Mexican anxiety about a possible revolution. Those fears
as it turned out were well founded. However the Mexican government in a way continued to
aggravate the situation by not only prohibiting American immigration but also by placing several
other regulations on the settlers. While not as major as the

Reflective Essay Of Stephen F. Austin Student
Appeal The situation concerning my academic progress was brought about by a combination of
multiple decisions I made. During my time on academic probation and the previous summer I
reflected on the events that lead to this point in my academic career. In the simplest of terms I over
exerted myself as a student. I attempted to remain a working man while taking courses and still
attempting to remain involved in the Stephen F. Austin Student community. Through this period of
reflection I have created a plan involving the advisorship of a TCC advisor and in the future my

The Influence Of Immigrants In America
Here in America, we have people from all over the world who come to settle in our country.
Whether for money, a job, or just to have a new experience, immigrants influence our country and
they shape our nation in so many ways. Not only do they bring themselves, but they bring so many
other cultural elements with them that they start to incorporate themselves into everyday American
life. America isn't just the land of the red, white, and blue; it's so much more. This diversity is
nothing new though; immigrants have been coming to the United States for year. One state in
particular has been impacted heavily by people from Europe, Asia, and Africa.
That state is Texas.
Back in 1821, when Texas was still ruled by Mexico, Moses Austin was ordered to bring 300
Catholic families in exchange for a large personal land grant. He died shortly after though in June.
His son, Stephen F. Austin, then took over his contract. After the fall of a short–lived government,
the Coahuila and Texas provinces merged into one.

Why Is The Settlement Of Texas Important
The Settlement of Texas is an important act in history. It all started with a man named Moses Austin
and his son Stephen F. Austin. If these men had not worked and some even given their lives to Texas
becoming independent, we would not have the 28th state of Texas.
In 1821 Moses Austin secured a colonization from Spain, which Mexico belonged to at the time. He
died from the rigors of his return on June 10, 1821. He was only 28 years old. But his son kept on
his father's work and in December, 1821, he led nearly 300 families to Texas. People wanted to
come to Texas because there was basically free land. From that day on he has been known as the
"Father of Texas". Then the newly independent Mexican government began giving huge land tracts

This became known as Manifest Destiny, and it was a belief that the United States should expand

Texas Rangers : A Great State Of Texas Essay
Texas Rangers My interest in researching the Texas Rangers was to find out how they came to be,
how did their legacy survive and what has become of them? The Rangers are unique frontiersman

nation's westward expansion. For every story I read I felt I was looking through a window about the

respected, admired, famous law enforcement in the world, they have been around for more than 200

The stories I have read have been a mixture of facts. To most of us the rangers were a small force of
peace officers who were old force, frontier men, veterans of war and converted from military
command to a civilian peace force. The fact is that they were also the oldest state law enforcement
agency in North America. It all came to light in Texas under Stephen F. Austin. He was known as

963 was a simple time in the state of Texas. Populations were sparse and the people were nice. The

Stephen, despite being in shock but wanting to honor his dad, went anyway to San Antonio to give

under his dad's grant. Stephen headed back to New Orleans where he got the terms published and
was telling colonists where his colony would be located (on the Brazos and Colorado rivers). In the
month of December of the same year, Stephen found out that Mexico did not approve the grant,
because it did not fall under the general immigration law. Hearing this, Stephen went to Mexico City
to fulfill the law. On January 3,1823 the law was fulfilled, and within the years 1825–1828, Stephen
had settled 900 families in addition to his 300. In the year of 1830, congress prohibited immigration.
Stephen tried to tell colonists about the evils of slavery but failed. Under the law of 1833, Texas had

Analysis Of Ag Pond By Stephen F. Austin State University...
Ag pond Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) has a gorgeous, nature filled campus. While
visiting SFA, students are able to see why lumberjacks are so proud of their campus. Unfortunately,
there is one place on campus that is just so grotesque that many avoid it entirely, the Ag pond. The
Ag pond has the potential to be a beautiful spectacle to not only students but prospective students.
The solution is simple. Create a group of students and faculty under campus sustainability to
maintain the Ag pond. To limit the pollution of the Ag pond, the campus sustainability could dredge
and clean, then in return make the pond beautiful again. The Ag pond has the scarring of many years
of neglect and pollution. The ecosystem has been effected due to the pollution over the years.
Unfortunately, the Ag pond is so contaminated that it is not possible to admire the nature. The
amount of trash and debris in the Ag pond is absurd. There are cans, paper, plastic, and branches all
throughout the pond. By not having a steady cleaning habit, the pond turns into a trash can that only
allows for the ecosystem to diminish. Excessive amounts of algae grow in the water when not
overseen correctly, and it produces toxins that will damage and injure other living organisms in the
water. With the proper upkeep the pond could be a thriving ecosystem. Dredging would be the best
cleaning option for the condition of the Ag pond. The Ag pond's main issue is the build up of
sediment and muck, the

Therefore, schools take these precautions to assure that students know what to do when in a time of crisis. Information like this should be much more easily accessible. Overall the SFASU campus safety policies and website are viable for the student on campus and off campus; however, it could be more publicized, that way all students know what to do and what not to do in the case of an emergency. Colleges and universities could easily do this by implementing mandatory safety and training courses to ensure the safety of their students while they are attending their school. This is extremely important so that way students feel safe and can casually recommend SFASU as a safe and educated school for to anyone who ask, showing that there is safety for all ... Texas at the time was at its most diverse (Unit 4, The Peoples of Mexican Texas). There were visible cultural differences and practices. However, the differences were hardly significant enough to propel Texas into a rebellion. The moment the Anglos set foot in to Texas, the cultural differences were noticeable to both sides, but it was not enough to deter either side from attempting to coexist (Unit 4, The Peoples of Mexican Texas). Economic motivations, grew to a point where it never reached prior to the Jacksonian era. Social changes, divided a significant amount of people within Texas itself. Cultural differences were notable and existed, but they took on a smaller role compared to politics, economics, and social changes. While cultural differences were present, they were not nearly enough to spark an entire rebellion. The cultural differences made it difficult to easily assimilate, but hardly impossible. The inability to quickly adjust to preceding expected cultural norms was a very unlikely reason for the rebellion. Weber, initially presents a very valid argument of the cultural differences between Anglo Texans and Mexican Texans. However, he makes it clear in his essay that despite the cultural differences, the main fight was between the Mexican Texan and the centralist Mexican government (MPTH, 139). There is more than enough evidence to support that the Texas rebellion would occur inevitably, as the discontent with the Mexican leadership rose. Consequently, it appeared that both cultures were able to coexist exceptionally. It is also leaves a curious question on whether culture assimilation, rather than cultural differences lead to the Texas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Stephen F. Austin Is Not High On The Crime Essay Stephen F. Austin is a beautiful school surrounded by tall pine trees and lakes. With the small population of students that attend this university compared to, for example, the University of Texas, most students and parents would not suspect that many crimes occur on campus. Stephen F. Austin is not high on the crime list compared to other universities, but it is not completely sound either. Last year, around the spring semester, there were several rumored cases of young women being beaten by an unidentified male. Due to these rumors many students did not feel safe walking around campus, especially at night. In the Crime Log for Stephen F. Austin there were a reported of twenty– four burglaries from 2013–2015, and four reported forcible assaults with three of them occurring in on campus housing. This semester a fraternity on campus, Alpha Tau Omega, was accused of sexually assaulting a student during one of their events. The young women claimed to have been drugged and then sexually assaulted by several different men. Grand jurors' chose not to indict anyone; therefore, the case was dropped. There should be more campus security/police posts around campus to lower the number of attacks, robberies, thefts and to help make students feel more secure on campus. Call boxes and messaging systems are pointless, implementing apps like LiveSafe and TapShield will help students have an "on–the–go" safety measure. Although Stephen F. • 16. Essay on Cultural Difference between Mexicans and Americans Cultural Difference between Mexicans and Americans While Texas leader Stephen Austin initially had no contempt toward Mexicans, the Anglo– American citizens in the area did. The American Texans of the 1800's defined Mexicans as "a race alien to everything that Americans held dear" (De Leon 4). This sentiment would serve as the primary catalyst to the Texas secession from Mexico. When Austin began colonizing the area, he envisioned a place in which Anglo–Americans and Tejanos, Mexicans living in Texas, could live together. Eventually, though, the public opinions of North American settlers in the territory and in Washington would make him realize that the goal of unity between the two groups was impossible. (Del Castillo 4) Americans believed they "were the 'pioneers of the continent,' who would inevitably spread the benefits of democracy and freedom to the lesser peoples inhabiting the region"(Del Castillo 4). Mexico in its earliest days was primarily Indian, but the infusion of both Spanish and black blood made it harder to define Mexicans. White Anglo–Americans believed "their contrast to 'white' and salient kindred to 'black' and 'red' made Mexicans subject to treatment commensurate with the odious connotations whites attached to colors, races, and cultures dissimilar to their own" (De Leon 6). Both Americans and Mexicans laid bricks creating cultural differences. America prided itself on being a nation comprised of people working for a better future. Mexicans were noted as focusing on the pleasures of life and ignoring their responsibilities. David Woodman, a promoter for a New York and Boston land company, is quoted in De Leon's They Called Them Greasers, saying "Mexicans habitually succumbed to indolence and ease and indulge themselves in smoking, music, dancing, horse–racing, and other sports" (7). This is a point where Mexico only had 3,500 native Mexicans settled in Texas; so in 1821, the Spanish government granted permission to Austin to settle 300 families in Texas. Austin's luck was about to turn around for him with this deal. On the other hand, he would not see his vision come to fruition, as he would perish on a return trip from Mexico City after being robbed. Before his untimely passing, his son Stephen F. Austin promised his father he would carry out the task and see it until the end. The year is now 1824 and a young Stephen F. Austin has attracted 272 colonists to Texas at this point; in addition to that he was also able to persuade the newly independent Mexican government to give empresarios (or land agents) 67,000 acres of land for every 200 families brought to Texas. That's approximately 335 acres a family which is unheard of. Mexico did agree to the term with two conditions pertaining to land ownership; first the settlers had to become Mexican citizens and secondly they had to covert to Roman Catholicism. Converting to Roman Catholicism proved to be a "Puritan Problem", however by 1830 there were 16,000 Americans in Texas. The recruitment in New Orleans could be dated back to the beginning of the conflict in 1835. Indeed, in October of that year, the first volunteers were drafted during a meeting at the Bank's Arcade building. A lot of the young men in the attendance were to enroll themselves on that night and the New Orleans Greys volunteers regiment was founded. Their involvement into the Texas revolution would be essential and decisive but, strangely, forgotten by many. At the time, the Mexican government openly accused the American government of not doing enough to stop the flow of armed volunteers, who crossed the border to join the Rebels. In fact, while the United States didn't implicitly supported the revolution, their duplicity and unwillingness to fix the problem indirectly helped the war effort. During the month of October 1835, the newly formed New Orleans Grey regiment took the road to Nacogdoches, entered Texas by the Sabine river and reached San Antonio de Bexar(San Antonio) by December. It represented a turning point in the young revolution, because the troops waiting for them had besieged the city since October, unable to defeat the Mexican garrison. For years Austin had attempted to keep the peace by convincing the citizens to be good Mexican citizens, hushing up criticism of the often corrupt and incompetent Mexican government and even helping the Mexicans in putting down an insurrection. Austin had used these as a show of good faith so that he could obtain concessions from the Mexican Congress. By 1832 though with more than 8,000 American immigrants in Texas, Austin's sometimes cautious leadership was not working. The passage of The Law of April 6, 1830 had prohibited furture immigrants from America from coming to Texas. This coupled with the fact that the United States continually attempted to buy Texas led to increasing Mexican anxiety about a possible revolution. Those fears as it turned out were well founded.
