General Motors –Port Elizabeth - Velocity Warehouse Training in the USA (Columbus, Detroit and
Cincinnati) including production concepts in line with lean production to customers
SA Die and Pattern – JHB(AIDC – nkessery@aidc.co.za) – Erected 9000m2 building and
introduce projection welding and robotic welding production lines – subject building on Ford’s
doorstep to synchronize with their production lines – upgrade SA DIE and Pattern’s Press Shop with
purchasing 7 New Presses from China and installed in Isando to enable capacity growth. Was in

The above resulted in a cost saving of ±R4M per annum on labour reduction from 120 to 32 and a
achieved a +-R25m p.a. on inventory saving on fast moving materials by introducing small order quantities
from suppliers delivered more frequently (19 weeks to 4 weeks) – Imports form USA and Europe
The new warehouse functions placed GMSA as No.1 on customer satisfaction rating and No.1 in all GM
LAAM (Americas) warehouses for the most cost effective operation and quickest response to customers in
RSA and neigbouring counties.
Training labour on lean/velocity material Establish IT requirements in all 3 w-houses.
End result was - place an order today before 3pm with 8am delivery next day anywhere in RSA. – Old
response was 3-5 days.
