10th Grade That Changed My Life
In 10th grade I had completely given up on myself, I stopped trying in school and would do anything
not to go. I rarely wanted to go out with my friends. I never felt happy or that I had any sort of
purpose in life. I felt like no matter how hard I tried I would never make a mark on this world. I
guess it was because I didn't really have any direction in my life. With all of my peers having their
future lined up for themselves I felt like I was all alone not knowing what my future was going to
look like. Once 10th grade ended I decided to get a job. I became a cashier at a fast food restaurant
called Gimme A Burger. Although this was a pretty average job, it gave me a sense of
accomplishment. When I came home from work I felt like I had actually

Good Grades Essay
Good Grades Essay
Adults are usually getting money when they do their jobs, but what about children? Children get
good grades, but they don't get any money for doing it. Some people think that giving children
money for good grades would help them in the future except it might not help them as much.Paying
for good grades is a bad idea because students forget what they learned, parents start to worry, and
school might need the money. Because of this some schools don't bother having to pay students for
good grades. So these reasons are why they shouldn't do it.
To begin, once teachers start paying students for good grades, the student's grades went up, but did
they actually learned? Some students might have only did it just for the money which won't help
them in the future. Some students might be doing the work for both the money and the learning
which is good, but some students wouldn't really be doing it for the learning so it could be hard for
them to remember those things. On Pareecothifter.com said that,"It isn't the point to get your kids to
work satisfactory." This shows that when your paying kids for good grades their isn't a point to it
unless their work was done to learn not just for money. Once they do the work and don't remember
anything that in their future they wouldn't know what helped them learned the things...show more

Even if children are getting good grades it could mean that their learning or it could not. There
was even a quote that talks about this on an article," Paying for good grades seem to help
children." But undoubtedly this can be challenged because even if paying for good grades help
students with good grades it still doesn't show weather they are really doing it for the learning or if
their just doing it for the money. Without a doubt, paying for good grades is good, but their are still
lots of problems to when money is given to

I Deserve A Grade In My English Class
Many students attend college with hopes of earning an education and pursuing a better life.
Little do they know the large amount of effort a student must place in their schoolwork in order
to receive high grades. When I began attending Shasta College, I understood that because of my
age I may be treated differently than the average student. I did not want to be given high grades, I
wanted to earn them and to be proud of my success. As a result, I aspired to place a large emphasis
on every assignment I received. I deserve an A grade in my English class due to my persistence,
hard work, and regular class attendance.
Persistence is a key component in order to succeed in college. While in my English class, I always
redo my schoolwork and homework, continuously striving for an A. I have observed fellow students'
studying techniques and learned from their mistakes and successes. Moreover, I have learned to
accept criticism and...show more content...
I am going to continue to studying hard and put a large amount of effort into every assignment.
Additionally, I am going to strive to ask more questions if I do not fully understand content being
reviewed in class. Also, I am going to try to have a more open mind regarding different issues
discussed in class. By following these steps I think I will increase my overall grade from a 97% to
100%.
Throughout my first semester at Shasta College my goal was to go above and beyond what was
expected for me. I have been exposed to many different types of people who have motivated me to
succeed in college. As a result, I deserve an A in my English class due to my persistence, hard
work, and regular class attendance. Because this is the first stepping stone on my educational
journey, I look forward to using what I have learned from my English class to help me in my future

The Grade I Would Assign Myself
The grade that I would personally assign myself for this class would be a ninety–three percent
because of the effort that I put into the journals and essays. The effort I put into the journals is the
first reason that I deserve a ninety–three percent. I put thought into the journals and came up with
well–thought out responses. The journals that were mostly reflective I put honest and elaborate
examples. Finally, I did research for some of the journals. The journal that I definitely did research
for and put just as much hard work into as the other journals was the journal where we had to
describe causal chains. The final reason I deserve a ninety–three percent is the effort that I put into
my essays. I put thought into the essays by choosing a topic of my interest. After I chose the
topic, I began drafting a first draft. I would completely rewrite the second and third drafts until I
felt that they were the way that I wanted them. If I did not believe that the third draft was polished
and ready to turn in, I would write a fourth or fifth draft. In addition to the grade I should receive, I
also had parts of the class I really enjoyed. My highlights from the class would be the workshops and
writing the exploratory essay. In the workshops, we had to give feedback to others about their
essays. I enjoyed reading other classmates essays and talking about their points of view on certain
topics. I also enjoyed helping them with their papers by giving them advice on how to better

"I didn't study for the test. Do you think you could send me a picture of the answers" This one
single line has been heard in schools everywhere. The pressure on students to get good grades leaves
a negative effect on students. The pressure starts while they are young and builds up as students get
older. Students can only take so much pressure until they go through a burn out. This is what often
leads to some students dropping out of high school. The pressure that is put on students to get good
grades often leads to depression, anger, and cheating.
Cheating is a method that is commonly used when students want to receive a good grade on a test.

Students of all ages will do almost anything to get the highest grade possible.
The pressure that is put on by parents also leads to a lot of stress. "Pressure for good grades often
lead to high stress and cheating" the title of the Stanford News articles. The article mentions how
students tend to try and find loopholes in the education system. High school is a prime example of
pressure put on students to get good grades. High school students are typically concerned with their
GPA, ACT's, SAT's. Not to mention college admissions and many other variables. "Pressure by
parents and schools to achieve top scores have created stress levels among students– beginning as
early as elementary school– that are so high, that some educators regard it as a health epidemic".
(Palmer 1) This quote is from Denise Clark, the author of the famously known book, 'Doing School'.
In her lecture, she shows how these pressures can overwhelm the students.
Secondly, Pressure that is put on students to get good grades commonly leads to sadness or even
depression. Students often procrastinate and eventually they become overwhelmed. When students
become overwhelmed, they often start to think that things are falling apart or they fall into
depression. Depression can lead to more stress. Students may become depressed or sad when they
get a bad grade. This causes the students to turn to cheating in order to receive a better one. Finally,

Grade School Experience
The grade school years were significant years in my life. I had oodles of fun, learned how to read
and write, made new friends along the way, and developed new skills I enjoyed. The first day of
grade school was an exciting day for me. I could not wait to go to the ВЁbig kid schoolВЁ and
make new friends. A few days earlier, I received news that my Kindergarten teacher was Mrs.
Spencer, the same teacher my brother, sister, and older neighbor had the opportunity to have. I
was extremely excited to show off how well I could write my name, but my teachers did not think
I could read. A few months passed, and my Mrs. Spencer suggested I visit the eye doctor as I
squinted when I tried to read the board. The doctor explained to my parents that the reason I
could not read was because I simply could not see the words. Once I received my first pair of
glasses, my reading jumped multiple levels and my organization improved. Throughout
Kindergarten, I developed a crush on a boy in my class, Jake Bachman. I called him the ВЁhottie
hotВЁ. Twelve years later, my family still talks about the extraordinary name we gave him! My
family also traveled to Disney on spring break. In addition, my babysitter began teaching me how to
play the piano, a skill she was exceptionally talented. First grade was a special year for my grade
school experience. It is the year I enjoyed a life–changing teacher, Mrs. LiaBraaten. She is the
teacher who first inspired me to become a teacher. I looked up to her in

Should Students Grade Their Teachers? Essay
As a student you are evaluated everyday, but have you ever desired to be the one doing the
grading? This is a thought provoking idea. Teachers grade students on almost everything these
days; including participation and behavior. So wouldn't it be nice to return the favor? Although it
may sound like a great idea, it could also be a very bad one. If students were able to grade their
teachers it could provide proper and thorough evaluation; help teachers to improve on what they
may be lacking, and help parents understand what is going on in the classroom; but at the same time
it could prove to be harmful to the student and a good teacher's career if not implemented correctly.
This is why it's important to recognize the possible positive...show more content...
If this works out, then the teacher will receive positive feedback, and that can do wonders to their
self confidence. The teacher will begin to understand what they are doing right, and how to
implement that properly in future school years. Also, the educator will know what they did wrong
so as not to repeat mistakes that previously hindered their grade as a teacher. This evaluation just
might even be a good way for students to anonymously share things that they might feel embarrassed
to tell someone, such as being sexually harassed, and so teacher evaluations are helpful when it
comes to stopping crimes against not only a child's mind, but their bodies as well. Besides all the
good stuff, a lot of people doubt that students grading teachers will have positive results. Many
educators believe that students are far too immature to handle the responsibility of critiquing a
professional. One author (referring to students) states, "They may like or dislike their teachers
depending upon the amount of homework he/she gives, the easiness of his tests, the leniency of the
marking, their appearance, temper and such other things that appeal to the students" (Gupta, 2010,
para. 4). Teachers are afraid of these biased opinions. Some even doubt the mindset of college
students. The main issue that is raised is whether or not students can handle the fact that

Students Expect High Grades Essays
Like any student, college students always want the easiest way out and still attain a good grade.
That was basically my experience in high school. Teachers just gave credit to assignments that
seemed like the students put a lot of effort into it. I actually gave advice to underclassmen by
encouraging them to do the work regardless if it is right. I would also receive credit for things that
had nothing to do with materials learning in class. If I had a graduation speech I would really thank
tissue boxes for increasing my grade and passing. In high school, I would slack off all the time and
procrastinated everything. Teachers seemed like they did not care and did not encourage me to stop
those bad habits. Unfortunately, today I still...show more content...
Colleges are providing chances that not everyone in America can attain, but students still do not find
it a reason to go through tedious essays, projects and studying. The author even calls the acts of
college students as "not only self–destructive, but socially destructive" (Wiesenfel). Since today's
pupils are Americas future, we cannot just prestige them if they received a C– in math and science.
These performances should not be acceptable because ones personal fail can lead to a bigger group
fail. Overall, Weisenfel provides a good reasoning from these points. Going more in depth in
Wiesenfels article, what really is the motivation for students wanting and begging for higher grades?
When I was in high school one of my priorities was to just get out of there. High school students
just want to go to college, and college students just want to head to grad school and get a steady
career. To keep progressing onto the next academic level one must be able to have a passing grade
which is a C. The minimum grade is all what California State Universities and other four year
universities ask for. Also, one of the most helpful ways to pay for college is through scholarships.
According to some scholarships many ask higher than a specific grade. Additionally several college
students just "think" they deserve a higher grade. In the article "Students Expect High Grades", it
states that "students surveyed said

8th grade. The last year at Ross Middle School. Being retrospective on past years has me thinking
of my many accomplishments, and many fails I've had. From getting very good grades to the
embarrassing moments. All the time I wish I was still in elementary school. You get to wake up
earlier and do less work. Next year I probably will be wishing the same thing, but to be in middle
school. I am excited for highschool next year, but also nervous. I am petrified of getting lost or
walking into the wrong classroom. Many of my freshman friends tell me they love highschool.
Life is different in many ways. There is much more homework and sports responsibility to handle.
Lunch is pretty much the same except that I had a clue of where to sit this year. Classes seem to go
by faster. Although we do have more homework, I give 100% effort. 1st quarter was mostly easy. I
received good grades and did all of my homework. I like LA extra credit and the 3% added to my
science grade. I have good friends, great teachers, and I'm having fun. It is sometimes scary to

After I read some of them I did see a pattern. The teachers were good, the year was overall ok (one

with the teachers are good. I love all my teachers this year and seem to understand the concept.
This year is going to more than ok. I will make sure of it. If I have to come to school every day for 7
years (minus summer), I might as well make it fun! They were also right about how much the extra
credit helped you grade, to take advantage of it. 8th grade will be the best year

My Ideal Grade Essay
My ideal grade would be third grade. This is an interesting age because they are almost to
fourth grade where the read to learn comes in. I think it is important for students to get in all the
different ways of learning. I plan on giving the students time to work in groups or alone. I think it
is important they learn to work with others as well as alone. I plan on using a lot of brain breaks so
the students have time to get up and move around. I like to do things with physical movement too.
This will give the students something to go back to to remember things. An example is using
movements while learning the water cycle. When the students go back to try to remember it, they
could imagine the movements and that may help them remember. I want to give students as much
choice as I can too. I want to do this because it helps...show more content...
I am going to make sure there is only a handful of rules. It is important for students to not to have
so many rules they will not remember them. A few rules I may have is, "raise your hand to ask a
question" or "no talking when the teacher is talking". I will make sure I have the consequences
displayed around the room too. They may be something like, "First warning – teacher talks to you
about what happen. Second warning – note sent home/call home. Third warning – principal's office."
This will let the students know exactly what is going to happen. I am going to have a reward
system that is based on individual bevaior. Each student will not be given points if they have the
teacher talk to them throughout the day. This will go with any of the warnings the teacher gives.
The students will have a month to get a certain amount of good days. After each month is over, the
students will be given a prize that is determined at the beginning of the month. For the students
who may not be doing so well, I may have a system that if you get so many good days you get a
prize. This will help all the students

Why Grades Are Important Essay
Yes, grades are an effective means of motivating students to do their best work. If there were no
grades why the students would like to work hard? Do not they want to enjoy luxury and comforts in
their youth? Surely, students want to enjoy their youth with luxury and comforts. They can not
judge themselves because they have no scale of judgment. It is the instructor only who judges the
students comparatively and gives grades to them accordingly. In this way, by receiving their grades
students recognize their positions in the class. If their positions came to be low, they then try to
achieve higher positions by working hard because they want to achieve their goal of becoming great
persons. As it is the nature of all the human beings that no...show more content...
The farmer does his best to make his fields fit for better growth of the crops only in the hope of
getting a good variety of crops so that they may help him in earning high money. If he will not be
able to get high money by producing a good variety of crops he will probably increase his
working hours to achieve his purpose because he does his work only for earning money to live in.
Similar is the case with the students. Students work because they want their instructor to give
them high grades. Their future career depends on their grades they have made at this level. If
they got high grade their future will be bright because everyone gives credit to grades. Therefore,
if students will get credit for their work they will work even better for getting more and more
credit. Otherwise, they will shirk work hard. Furthermore, God will also give rewards to those
people who have done good deeds in this world. That is why; all people do their best of doing good
deeds so that they may be able to get reward from God on their sacrifices and hardships. If there
would be no reward from God, no one would want to do good deeds by facing hardships. Every
one would be free to committing sins or other bad deeds which will results in turmoil of the world.
Same is the case with the students. If the instructor gives them grades for their individual work they

Persuasive Essay On Letter Grades
Historically, letter grades have served as a tool to rate educational intelligence. By looking at the
progression of a student's grades over time, people are able to determine whether or not the students
are developing skills in certain areas. Using a one letter grade to determine progress has received
many critiques as a common system used in America's education. Critics claim letter grades cause
students motivation and creativity to decrease because grades shift students focus from learning the
material to obtaining a good grade. Letter grades were introduced into American schools in 1911.
The grading system was originally created in Europe in the 17th century as a means to rank students
based on tests. By the 1930s and 40s, most...show more content...
The pressure to uphold a grade motivates students to look for and memorize the information on
upcoming tests. Furthermore, students will be more likely to opt for projects and classes with more
basic content to learn because easier classes increase the student's likelihood of receiving an A. To
students, the easy way out is the right way since the success of gaining an A on transcripts has
become more important than learning.
One example demonstrating that grades lead to limited learning of material, can be illustrated by a
study that was conducted of students, some of whom were graded. One group of students was told
about being graded and the other group was not. The group who was "told they'd be graded on how
well they learned a social studies lesson had more trouble understanding the main point of the text
than did students who were told that no grades would be involved" (Kohn). This experiment shows
how students concerned getting a good grade detracts from the students overall understanding. In my
experience, students have so much homework, activities, and pressure to excel that it becomes
challenging to learn topics outside of those being assigned. For example, in order to complete
history worksheets, students do not always read the passages to find the answers, but rather skim the
passage for keywords

I Deserve A Grade
Grading is the method that teachers or professors use to judge students' comprehension of the
class materials as well as the students' effort. Even though I do not get highest grades for a
couple of the assignments in this Speech class, I truly believe I should receive an A in this class
because of the effort I have put into the class, the time commitment I have spent to study, and the
enormous courage when I stand in front of the class to give a speech. The reason I think I

completing this Speech class is a huge task to me, so I know I should work hard to be successful.

8th Grade Summary Essay 8th grade has been a hell of a ride, I went through ups and downs, met
new people, learned new things, and finally finished middle school. But along this hellish ride I
encountered many challenges (and sorta solved them). I learned life lessons and had people help
me along the way, I achieved goals that I set for myself. Most importantly, I learned many
methods from AVID that I hope I will always use and take advantage of. Without AVID I would
probably not care about my grades so much as much as I do now. This year I would say was one
of the toughest for me to go through. I went through a lot of challenges this year in 8th grade both
academically and socially. A few of my academic challenges were passing classes, keeping up
with all the work that was given to us, and turning in all the work that was given to us on time.
Which was hard for me only because I like to take a long time to think through things and try to do

I was gone for the day. When I didn't understand something I'd ask for help, which I had a big
problem with asking for help in the beginning of the year because it made me feel dense. But now
I know, it's okay to ask for help because it doesn't mean you're dull it means you actually want to

feel is better than not doing anything about my public speaking phobia. Instead of letting myself

For those who have citizenship in America, who are living in "the land of the free and the home of
the brave" as the American national anthem suggests, education for all has consequently become an
important part of who we are as a society. Yet, because of the vastness of the subject, individuals
have different ideas regarding what education should look like in a school setting, which has in turn
lead to the question, "what makes a successful student?" Are students successful only if their grade is
a B or higher, or is there something more then the grade system that defines success?
In the article"Student Expectation Seen as Causing Grade Disputes" , it specifically points out a
common dispute among college students regarding grades. Colleges around the country have been
having to handle a substantial amount of perturbed students complaining that they have received a
considerably lower grade for a designated assignment then the amount of effort they applied to
accomplish it deserved. Discouraged and angry, students see their teachers' explanations of grades
being based ability not effort, as unfair and stifling. I understand where these students are coming

Should Children Be Rewarded For Good Grades?
I agree with the author Karen Barkslade, and Brenda Nelson on their views of children getting
rewarded for getting good grades. Allowing children to receive awards is allowing them to be
able to say the only way I will do something is if I get something in return. When that should never
be the case. Children should not be rewarded for good grades because they stop striving for
greatness, they will only do the work when they know a prize is involved, and never learn the true
meaning of working for something. Children will only do the minimal if we rewards for a passing
grade. They will see what it takes to get the prize and then once they have established on how hard
they have to work they will never surpass that. Kids will only do the minimal

Happy: My Sixth Grade Experience
"Happy" It was two years ago. I was finally in sixth grade and I knew this year would go great. I
had finally made it to 6th grade. I was determined to have a great year. The year got off to a decent
enough start. There were three 6th grade teachers and I got the easiest one, Mrs Miller.
Unfortunately my two best friends Will and Brandon were both in the same class but it wasn't
my class. I was determined to find friends in my own class. I made friends with this one kid
named Misael who was new to the school that year. Now Will especially wasn't too happy with
that but eventually Misael started hanging out with this other guy named Seth so that took care
of itself. My friend situation was okay. At least for now... "I'm a hot air balloon that could go to
space... Because I'm happy..." (Williams) Mrs Miller was a really fun teacher. She didn't give us
tons of homework and she certainly never gave us homework over the weekends unlike the other
teachers. We did a lot of fun projects and math wasn't to hard for the most part. The only problem
was that when she was teaching she would remember something that reminded her of something and
then she would go on half an hour long tangents about it especially during social studies. Like one
time we started by talking about verbs and ended talking about slaughterhouses! They were usually
interesting but when I told my mom she was concerned I wasn't learning enough in class. Infact, my
mom dislikes her to this day. My teacher also didn't

Why I Deserve A Grade
Why do I deserve an A as a grade? I deserve an A as a grade for this class for many reasons. I think
I deserve this grade because for one it's a good grade period and teachers tell me they appreciate
me doing their work they give me. Then I try to get all my assignments in, and most of the time I try
my hardest, that's what makes what my grades are now, and lastly I try to pay attention even when
something isn't interesting because I want to show my younger brother that life is hard but it doesn't
hurt to try in school and to not give up. First I think I deserve this type of grade because it's a good
grade. Everyone knows that. Teachers tell me all the time that they are glad I pay attention. They
also say its good to just do the work and

My Lowest Grade Essay
When I look backwards on my high school career, I honestly thought my grades as a freshman were
a lot worse than they actually are. The lowest grade I received was a B– in Honors Geometry, and
the majority of my grades were A's. I think I rather remember my negative attitude towards school
and my lazy work ethic, which did not translate as heavily into my letter grades. Surprisingly
enough, my most satisfying grades out of my entire grade book are the C's I received in AP
United States History. At the end of my freshman year, I took a practice test to see if I could
handle taking an advanced placement course my sophomore year. Lets just say that my test results

  • 2. 10th Grade That Changed My Life In 10th grade I had completely given up on myself, I stopped trying in school and would do anything not to go. I rarely wanted to go out with my friends. I never felt happy or that I had any sort of purpose in life. I felt like no matter how hard I tried I would never make a mark on this world. I guess it was because I didn't really have any direction in my life. With all of my peers having their future lined up for themselves I felt like I was all alone not knowing what my future was going to look like. Once 10th grade ended I decided to get a job. I became a cashier at a fast food restaurant called Gimme A Burger. Although this was a pretty average job, it gave me a sense of accomplishment. When I came home from work I felt like I had actually Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Good Grades Essay Good Grades Essay Adults are usually getting money when they do their jobs, but what about children? Children get good grades, but they don't get any money for doing it. Some people think that giving children money for good grades would help them in the future except it might not help them as much.Paying for good grades is a bad idea because students forget what they learned, parents start to worry, and school might need the money. Because of this some schools don't bother having to pay students for good grades. So these reasons are why they shouldn't do it. To begin, once teachers start paying students for good grades, the student's grades went up, but did they actually learned? Some students might have only did it just for the money which won't help them in the future. Some students might be doing the work for both the money and the learning which is good, but some students wouldn't really be doing it for the learning so it could be hard for them to remember those things. On Pareecothifter.com said that,"It isn't the point to get your kids to work satisfactory." This shows that when your paying kids for good grades their isn't a point to it unless their work was done to learn not just for money. Once they do the work and don't remember anything that in their future they wouldn't know what helped them learned the things...show more content... Even if children are getting good grades it could mean that their learning or it could not. There was even a quote that talks about this on an article," Paying for good grades seem to help children." But undoubtedly this can be challenged because even if paying for good grades help students with good grades it still doesn't show weather they are really doing it for the learning or if their just doing it for the money. Without a doubt, paying for good grades is good, but their are still lots of problems to when money is given to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. I Deserve A Grade In My English Class Many students attend college with hopes of earning an education and pursuing a better life. Little do they know the large amount of effort a student must place in their schoolwork in order to receive high grades. When I began attending Shasta College, I understood that because of my age I may be treated differently than the average student. I did not want to be given high grades, I wanted to earn them and to be proud of my success. As a result, I aspired to place a large emphasis on every assignment I received. I deserve an A grade in my English class due to my persistence, hard work, and regular class attendance. Persistence is a key component in order to succeed in college. While in my English class, I always redo my schoolwork and homework, continuously striving for an A. I have observed fellow students' studying techniques and learned from their mistakes and successes. Moreover, I have learned to accept criticism and...show more content... I am going to continue to studying hard and put a large amount of effort into every assignment. Additionally, I am going to strive to ask more questions if I do not fully understand content being reviewed in class. Also, I am going to try to have a more open mind regarding different issues discussed in class. By following these steps I think I will increase my overall grade from a 97% to 100%. Throughout my first semester at Shasta College my goal was to go above and beyond what was expected for me. I have been exposed to many different types of people who have motivated me to succeed in college. As a result, I deserve an A in my English class due to my persistence, hard work, and regular class attendance. Because this is the first stepping stone on my educational journey, I look forward to using what I have learned from my English class to help me in my future Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. The Grade I Would Assign Myself The grade that I would personally assign myself for this class would be a ninety–three percent because of the effort that I put into the journals and essays. The effort I put into the journals is the first reason that I deserve a ninety–three percent. I put thought into the journals and came up with well–thought out responses. The journals that were mostly reflective I put honest and elaborate examples. Finally, I did research for some of the journals. The journal that I definitely did research for and put just as much hard work into as the other journals was the journal where we had to describe causal chains. The final reason I deserve a ninety–three percent is the effort that I put into my essays. I put thought into the essays by choosing a topic of my interest. After I chose the topic, I began drafting a first draft. I would completely rewrite the second and third drafts until I felt that they were the way that I wanted them. If I did not believe that the third draft was polished and ready to turn in, I would write a fourth or fifth draft. In addition to the grade I should receive, I also had parts of the class I really enjoyed. My highlights from the class would be the workshops and writing the exploratory essay. In the workshops, we had to give feedback to others about their essays. I enjoyed reading other classmates essays and talking about their points of view on certain topics. I also enjoyed helping them with their papers by giving them advice on how to better Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. "I didn't study for the test. Do you think you could send me a picture of the answers" This one single line has been heard in schools everywhere. The pressure on students to get good grades leaves a negative effect on students. The pressure starts while they are young and builds up as students get older. Students can only take so much pressure until they go through a burn out. This is what often leads to some students dropping out of high school. The pressure that is put on students to get good grades often leads to depression, anger, and cheating. Cheating is a method that is commonly used when students want to receive a good grade on a test. They often resort to cheating because it is highly effective and their effort is no*t...show more content... Students of all ages will do almost anything to get the highest grade possible. The pressure that is put on by parents also leads to a lot of stress. "Pressure for good grades often lead to high stress and cheating" the title of the Stanford News articles. The article mentions how students tend to try and find loopholes in the education system. High school is a prime example of pressure put on students to get good grades. High school students are typically concerned with their GPA, ACT's, SAT's. Not to mention college admissions and many other variables. "Pressure by parents and schools to achieve top scores have created stress levels among students– beginning as early as elementary school– that are so high, that some educators regard it as a health epidemic". (Palmer 1) This quote is from Denise Clark, the author of the famously known book, 'Doing School'. In her lecture, she shows how these pressures can overwhelm the students. Secondly, Pressure that is put on students to get good grades commonly leads to sadness or even depression. Students often procrastinate and eventually they become overwhelmed. When students become overwhelmed, they often start to think that things are falling apart or they fall into depression. Depression can lead to more stress. Students may become depressed or sad when they get a bad grade. This causes the students to turn to cheating in order to receive a better one. • 7. Grade School Experience The grade school years were significant years in my life. I had oodles of fun, learned how to read and write, made new friends along the way, and developed new skills I enjoyed. The first day of grade school was an exciting day for me. I could not wait to go to the ВЁbig kid schoolВЁ and make new friends. A few days earlier, I received news that my Kindergarten teacher was Mrs. Spencer, the same teacher my brother, sister, and older neighbor had the opportunity to have. I was extremely excited to show off how well I could write my name, but my teachers did not think I could read. A few months passed, and my Mrs. Spencer suggested I visit the eye doctor as I squinted when I tried to read the board. The doctor explained to my parents that the reason I could not read was because I simply could not see the words. Once I received my first pair of glasses, my reading jumped multiple levels and my organization improved. Throughout Kindergarten, I developed a crush on a boy in my class, Jake Bachman. I called him the ВЁhottie hotВЁ. Twelve years later, my family still talks about the extraordinary name we gave him! My family also traveled to Disney on spring break. In addition, my babysitter began teaching me how to play the piano, a skill she was exceptionally talented. First grade was a special year for my grade school experience. It is the year I enjoyed a life–changing teacher, Mrs. LiaBraaten. She is the teacher who first inspired me to become a teacher. I looked up to her in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Should Students Grade Their Teachers? Essay As a student you are evaluated everyday, but have you ever desired to be the one doing the grading? This is a thought provoking idea. Teachers grade students on almost everything these days; including participation and behavior. So wouldn't it be nice to return the favor? Although it may sound like a great idea, it could also be a very bad one. If students were able to grade their teachers it could provide proper and thorough evaluation; help teachers to improve on what they may be lacking, and help parents understand what is going on in the classroom; but at the same time it could prove to be harmful to the student and a good teacher's career if not implemented correctly. This is why it's important to recognize the possible positive...show more content... If this works out, then the teacher will receive positive feedback, and that can do wonders to their self confidence. The teacher will begin to understand what they are doing right, and how to implement that properly in future school years. Also, the educator will know what they did wrong so as not to repeat mistakes that previously hindered their grade as a teacher. This evaluation just might even be a good way for students to anonymously share things that they might feel embarrassed to tell someone, such as being sexually harassed, and so teacher evaluations are helpful when it comes to stopping crimes against not only a child's mind, but their bodies as well. Besides all the good stuff, a lot of people doubt that students grading teachers will have positive results. Many educators believe that students are far too immature to handle the responsibility of critiquing a professional. One author (referring to students) states, "They may like or dislike their teachers depending upon the amount of homework he/she gives, the easiness of his tests, the leniency of the marking, their appearance, temper and such other things that appeal to the students" (Gupta, 2010, para. 4). Teachers are afraid of these biased opinions. Some even doubt the mindset of college students. The main issue that is raised is whether or not students can handle the fact that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Students Expect High Grades Essays Like any student, college students always want the easiest way out and still attain a good grade. That was basically my experience in high school. Teachers just gave credit to assignments that seemed like the students put a lot of effort into it. I actually gave advice to underclassmen by encouraging them to do the work regardless if it is right. I would also receive credit for things that had nothing to do with materials learning in class. If I had a graduation speech I would really thank tissue boxes for increasing my grade and passing. In high school, I would slack off all the time and procrastinated everything. Teachers seemed like they did not care and did not encourage me to stop those bad habits. Unfortunately, today I still...show more content... Colleges are providing chances that not everyone in America can attain, but students still do not find it a reason to go through tedious essays, projects and studying. The author even calls the acts of college students as "not only self–destructive, but socially destructive" (Wiesenfel). Since today's pupils are Americas future, we cannot just prestige them if they received a C– in math and science. These performances should not be acceptable because ones personal fail can lead to a bigger group fail. Overall, Weisenfel provides a good reasoning from these points. Going more in depth in Wiesenfels article, what really is the motivation for students wanting and begging for higher grades? When I was in high school one of my priorities was to just get out of there. High school students just want to go to college, and college students just want to head to grad school and get a steady career. To keep progressing onto the next academic level one must be able to have a passing grade which is a C. The minimum grade is all what California State Universities and other four year universities ask for. Also, one of the most helpful ways to pay for college is through scholarships. According to some scholarships many ask higher than a specific grade. Additionally several college students just "think" they deserve a higher grade. In the article "Students Expect High Grades", it states that "students surveyed said Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. 8th Grade Essay 8th grade. The last year at Ross Middle School. Being retrospective on past years has me thinking of my many accomplishments, and many fails I've had. From getting very good grades to the embarrassing moments. All the time I wish I was still in elementary school. You get to wake up earlier and do less work. Next year I probably will be wishing the same thing, but to be in middle school. I am excited for highschool next year, but also nervous. I am petrified of getting lost or walking into the wrong classroom. Many of my freshman friends tell me they love highschool. Life is different in many ways. There is much more homework and sports responsibility to handle. Lunch is pretty much the same except that I had a clue of where to sit this year. Classes seem to go by faster. Although we do have more homework, I give 100% effort. 1st quarter was mostly easy. I received good grades and did all of my homework. I like LA extra credit and the 3% added to my science grade. I have good friends, great teachers, and I'm having fun. It is sometimes scary to think that I will be driving in less than 3 years! The goals that we created are going good. I am nailing the grades and no ACE parts. The 8th grade is very different...show more content... After I read some of them I did see a pattern. The teachers were good, the year was overall ok (one didn't like it at all), do your homework, and don't get involved in drama. I believe that not getting into drama is correct. Getting into drama just messes your whole life up for a while. I also agree with the teachers are good. I love all my teachers this year and seem to understand the concept. This year is going to more than ok. I will make sure of it. If I have to come to school every day for 7 years (minus summer), I might as well make it fun! They were also right about how much the extra credit helped you grade, to take advantage of it. 8th grade will be the best year Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. My Ideal Grade Essay My ideal grade would be third grade. This is an interesting age because they are almost to fourth grade where the read to learn comes in. I think it is important for students to get in all the different ways of learning. I plan on giving the students time to work in groups or alone. I think it is important they learn to work with others as well as alone. I plan on using a lot of brain breaks so the students have time to get up and move around. I like to do things with physical movement too. This will give the students something to go back to to remember things. An example is using movements while learning the water cycle. When the students go back to try to remember it, they could imagine the movements and that may help them remember. I want to give students as much choice as I can too. I want to do this because it helps...show more content... I am going to make sure there is only a handful of rules. It is important for students to not to have so many rules they will not remember them. A few rules I may have is, "raise your hand to ask a question" or "no talking when the teacher is talking". I will make sure I have the consequences displayed around the room too. They may be something like, "First warning – teacher talks to you about what happen. Second warning – note sent home/call home. Third warning – principal's office." This will let the students know exactly what is going to happen. I am going to have a reward system that is based on individual bevaior. Each student will not be given points if they have the teacher talk to them throughout the day. This will go with any of the warnings the teacher gives. The students will have a month to get a certain amount of good days. After each month is over, the students will be given a prize that is determined at the beginning of the month. For the students who may not be doing so well, I may have a system that if you get so many good days you get a prize. This will help all the students Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Why Grades Are Important Essay Yes, grades are an effective means of motivating students to do their best work. If there were no grades why the students would like to work hard? Do not they want to enjoy luxury and comforts in their youth? Surely, students want to enjoy their youth with luxury and comforts. They can not judge themselves because they have no scale of judgment. It is the instructor only who judges the students comparatively and gives grades to them accordingly. In this way, by receiving their grades students recognize their positions in the class. If their positions came to be low, they then try to achieve higher positions by working hard because they want to achieve their goal of becoming great persons. As it is the nature of all the human beings that no...show more content... The farmer does his best to make his fields fit for better growth of the crops only in the hope of getting a good variety of crops so that they may help him in earning high money. If he will not be able to get high money by producing a good variety of crops he will probably increase his working hours to achieve his purpose because he does his work only for earning money to live in. Similar is the case with the students. Students work because they want their instructor to give them high grades. Their future career depends on their grades they have made at this level. If they got high grade their future will be bright because everyone gives credit to grades. Therefore, if students will get credit for their work they will work even better for getting more and more credit. Otherwise, they will shirk work hard. Furthermore, God will also give rewards to those people who have done good deeds in this world. That is why; all people do their best of doing good deeds so that they may be able to get reward from God on their sacrifices and hardships. If there would be no reward from God, no one would want to do good deeds by facing hardships. Every one would be free to committing sins or other bad deeds which will results in turmoil of the world. Same is the case with the students. If the instructor gives them grades for their individual work they will Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Persuasive Essay On Letter Grades Historically, letter grades have served as a tool to rate educational intelligence. By looking at the progression of a student's grades over time, people are able to determine whether or not the students are developing skills in certain areas. Using a one letter grade to determine progress has received many critiques as a common system used in America's education. Critics claim letter grades cause students motivation and creativity to decrease because grades shift students focus from learning the material to obtaining a good grade. Letter grades were introduced into American schools in 1911. The grading system was originally created in Europe in the 17th century as a means to rank students based on tests. By the 1930s and 40s, most...show more content... The pressure to uphold a grade motivates students to look for and memorize the information on upcoming tests. Furthermore, students will be more likely to opt for projects and classes with more basic content to learn because easier classes increase the student's likelihood of receiving an A. To students, the easy way out is the right way since the success of gaining an A on transcripts has become more important than learning. One example demonstrating that grades lead to limited learning of material, can be illustrated by a study that was conducted of students, some of whom were graded. One group of students was told about being graded and the other group was not. The group who was "told they'd be graded on how well they learned a social studies lesson had more trouble understanding the main point of the text than did students who were told that no grades would be involved" (Kohn). This experiment shows how students concerned getting a good grade detracts from the students overall understanding. In my experience, students have so much homework, activities, and pressure to excel that it becomes challenging to learn topics outside of those being assigned. For example, in order to complete history worksheets, students do not always read the passages to find the answers, but rather skim the passage for keywords Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. I Deserve A Grade Grading is the method that teachers or professors use to judge students' comprehension of the class materials as well as the students' effort. Even though I do not get highest grades for a couple of the assignments in this Speech class, I truly believe I should receive an A in this class because of the effort I have put into the class, the time commitment I have spent to study, and the enormous courage when I stand in front of the class to give a speech. The reason I think I deserve the A grade is because I hope that all my hard working is well worth it. In summary, completing this Speech class is a huge task to me, so I know I should work hard to be successful. Whenever I do not receive a high grade for my assignment, I feel bad. But I never Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. 8th Grade Essay 8th Grade Summary Essay 8th grade has been a hell of a ride, I went through ups and downs, met new people, learned new things, and finally finished middle school. But along this hellish ride I encountered many challenges (and sorta solved them). I learned life lessons and had people help me along the way, I achieved goals that I set for myself. Most importantly, I learned many methods from AVID that I hope I will always use and take advantage of. Without AVID I would probably not care about my grades so much as much as I do now. This year I would say was one of the toughest for me to go through. I went through a lot of challenges this year in 8th grade both academically and socially. A few of my academic challenges were passing classes, keeping up with all the work that was given to us, and turning in all the work that was given to us on time. Which was hard for me only because I like to take a long time to think through things and try to do thing the best of my ability. Not to mention, my social life is...show more content... When I was failing my reading class I tried to do as much as I possibly could. I went to tutoring to do missing work. Although, I only had a C in that class for like the entire year, that's all that matter to me because I was passing. I tried to turn things on time, which I mostly did expect when I was gone for the day. When I didn't understand something I'd ask for help, which I had a big problem with asking for help in the beginning of the year because it made me feel dense. But now I know, it's okay to ask for help because it doesn't mean you're dull it means you actually want to learn. I never really got over my fear of public speaking, but I have been working on it. Which I feel is better than not doing anything about my public speaking phobia. Instead of letting myself get a bad grade, I actually try to speak in front of the class, and I feel like I've a huge improvement doing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. For those who have citizenship in America, who are living in "the land of the free and the home of the brave" as the American national anthem suggests, education for all has consequently become an important part of who we are as a society. Yet, because of the vastness of the subject, individuals have different ideas regarding what education should look like in a school setting, which has in turn lead to the question, "what makes a successful student?" Are students successful only if their grade is a B or higher, or is there something more then the grade system that defines success? In the article"Student Expectation Seen as Causing Grade Disputes" , it specifically points out a common dispute among college students regarding grades. Colleges around the country have been having to handle a substantial amount of perturbed students complaining that they have received a considerably lower grade for a designated assignment then the amount of effort they applied to accomplish it deserved. Discouraged and angry, students see their teachers' explanations of grades being based ability not effort, as unfair and stifling. I understand where these students are coming ...show more content... In the article "Student Expectation Seen as Causing Grade Disputes", Professor Bower said, " If students developed a genuine interest in their field, grades would take a back seat, and holistic and intrinsically motivated learning could take place." Consequently our mentality should not be, " I worked hard therefore I deserve an A", but instead should be, " Whatever my grade, I did my best and have come away from this class with more knowledge and understanding of this topic then I entered with." As my mentality changed in regard to how a student can be successful, my intent and goals for AP English Language and Composition fell into Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Should Children Be Rewarded For Good Grades? I agree with the author Karen Barkslade, and Brenda Nelson on their views of children getting rewarded for getting good grades. Allowing children to receive awards is allowing them to be able to say the only way I will do something is if I get something in return. When that should never be the case. Children should not be rewarded for good grades because they stop striving for greatness, they will only do the work when they know a prize is involved, and never learn the true meaning of working for something. Children will only do the minimal if we rewards for a passing grade. They will see what it takes to get the prize and then once they have established on how hard they have to work they will never surpass that. Kids will only do the minimal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Happy: My Sixth Grade Experience "Happy" It was two years ago. I was finally in sixth grade and I knew this year would go great. I had finally made it to 6th grade. I was determined to have a great year. The year got off to a decent enough start. There were three 6th grade teachers and I got the easiest one, Mrs Miller. Unfortunately my two best friends Will and Brandon were both in the same class but it wasn't my class. I was determined to find friends in my own class. I made friends with this one kid named Misael who was new to the school that year. Now Will especially wasn't too happy with that but eventually Misael started hanging out with this other guy named Seth so that took care of itself. My friend situation was okay. At least for now... "I'm a hot air balloon that could go to space... Because I'm happy..." (Williams) Mrs Miller was a really fun teacher. She didn't give us tons of homework and she certainly never gave us homework over the weekends unlike the other teachers. We did a lot of fun projects and math wasn't to hard for the most part. The only problem was that when she was teaching she would remember something that reminded her of something and then she would go on half an hour long tangents about it especially during social studies. Like one time we started by talking about verbs and ended talking about slaughterhouses! They were usually interesting but when I told my mom she was concerned I wasn't learning enough in class. Infact, my mom dislikes her to this day. My teacher also didn't Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Why I Deserve A Grade Why do I deserve an A as a grade? I deserve an A as a grade for this class for many reasons. I think I deserve this grade because for one it's a good grade period and teachers tell me they appreciate me doing their work they give me. Then I try to get all my assignments in, and most of the time I try my hardest, that's what makes what my grades are now, and lastly I try to pay attention even when something isn't interesting because I want to show my younger brother that life is hard but it doesn't hurt to try in school and to not give up. First I think I deserve this type of grade because it's a good grade. Everyone knows that. Teachers tell me all the time that they are glad I pay attention. They also say its good to just do the work and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. My Lowest Grade Essay When I look backwards on my high school career, I honestly thought my grades as a freshman were a lot worse than they actually are. The lowest grade I received was a B– in Honors Geometry, and the majority of my grades were A's. I think I rather remember my negative attitude towards school and my lazy work ethic, which did not translate as heavily into my letter grades. Surprisingly enough, my most satisfying grades out of my entire grade book are the C's I received in AP United States History. At the end of my freshman year, I took a practice test to see if I could handle taking an advanced placement course my sophomore year. Lets just say that my test results were so bad that Mr. Bradley recommended that I not take the class and wait another year, however I was up for the challenge and wanted to take an initiative in my academics, so I took the class. ...show more content... While it is my lowest grade, it is the biggest win in my book because I could have easily taken a regular history class and gotten an A, but I valued knowledge over my GPA. When people look at my transcript, they see that I maximized my opportunities to take AP classes throughout my time in high school. At my school in particular, senior tend to take easy course loads their senior year so they don't have to put in at lot of work, however I decided to take Statistics, AP Literature, Philosophy, and Spanish to continue to grow academically. If I had the chance to do high school over again, I don't think I would change anything. From all of my mistakes and achievements, I have continued to grow as a person, and I doubt that I would be the same person I am today if I made different decisions based around Get more content on HelpWriting.net
