Instead,youneedtowrite bettercontent.
“Better”contentistypicallylonger,yes.
But it’smore than justlength.Infact,the real reasonforhigh-rankingcontentisn’tthe lengthof the
contentat all.
For example,let’stake alookat the top-rankedorganicresultsfor“contentmarketing.”
The top resultwhenIsearchedthismorningwasan article titled“WhatIsContentMarketing?”onthe
ContentMarketingInstitute blog.

No.In fact, I selected“contentmarketing”keywordsinordertosurface resultsfrom the content
marketingcommunity — writersandcontentcreatorswhobelieve thatlongerisbetter.
But, apparently,Google isdeliveringtop-rankedresultsthatdonothave superlongarticles.
Now,foreveryshortarticle that I findinthe top results, Icouldprobablyfindalongformarticle,too.
The pointis this: Justbecause youwrite longcontentdoesn’tmeanyou’llrankhigher.
I’ll state mypointagain — the real reasonthat contentranks highhaslittle todo withthe length.
Okay,well if notlength,thenwhatisit?
Everypiece of contentthat youwrite hasto have these three characteristics.
Contentlengthisn’tthe decidingfactor.
As importantasit is,there are otherfactors intrinsictocontentthathave more significance.
What kindof factors do influence high-rankingcontent?
Obviously,thisisthe entirequestionthatSEOandcontentmarketingare tryingto answer.
Andthere are three clearanswersbasedondata.
1. The contentshouldbe deep.
First,the contentneedstobe deep.
What do I meanby “deep?”
I’ll explain,butfirst,letme showyouwhydepthmattersbecause thatwill helpusunderstandwhat
“deep”lookslike inareal-worldexample.
